Free "Far Cry" being given away by Ubisoft

If you haven't got it or played Far Cry I think it's well worth it. It was released when only the very top end PC's could really play it on full video options and display but it should fly now on most peoples systems.

I still maintain FarCry has the best storytelling and gameplay of any first person perspective game I've ever played. And the fact you can literally roam the island and approach an objective any way you want is superb.

Can't wait for Crysis to come out, might have to upgrade the PC though.

For me Half-Life and Half-Life 2 (In particular) beats Farcry hands down in so many departments!

I loved the free roaming of FC and the vehicles but I didn't like the inside levels with those mutants.

I thought Far Cry was a great game - so nice to see something different in terms of setting, instead of the usual post-apocalypse/grimy space station/warehouse with lots of crates/industrial locations that crop up so often in FPS's these days. Crysis is also shaping up well - the tech demo videos on GamersHell are very impressive, although the system requirments will probably be immense. Far Cry 2 has also been announced, although it's being put together by a different development team.

As for the Far Cry download account and location requirements, no doubt the files will be mirrored worldwide and/or torrented within hours, so I wouldn't worry too much.

edit to add - if you like your freeware more old-school, EA are also giving away a classic - the original Command & Conquer!

I hope it is torrented soon. I've been trying to get FarCry all sodding day; wait 40 odd min and it tells me it couldn't add to the queue.

ETA, US requirement? Drat, I shall need a proxy and dig up the address of a relative in Seffner, Florida

Not sure about that, he mentioned gamershell above, but Farcry is on Fileplanet. So perhaps there are different ones around.

I still prefer a hard copy - you can pick up a copy of Far Cry for £1.60 on Amazon, well worth it....

For those whose modem hasn't melted yet from downloading Far Cry, it seems that Ubisoft are also giving away Rayman Raving Rabids, Ghost Recon, and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.
