Bleagh.. totally hacked off with campaign mode now - trying to play on Legendary but on the first mission, there's two large battles where it's surely impossible - too many snipers who take 12 headshots to go down, that's if you get that many shots before they kill you in one hit before you even get a chance to see 'em frown

After finally getting to the final big battle at the dam(n), I didn't have a sniper rifle which basically makes it impossible and you can't get back past the previous *****ing checkpoint so you're stuck having to repeat the whole level and another 2 hours of swearing and throwing the controller at the tv.

Is it even possible to get anywhere on Legendary solo or as I suspect, do you have to go coop to have any sort of chance?

Best to go co-op

4 people if poss.

1 guy to be the bait to give away the position of the snipers, and the rest to take them out.

It's not that tough on Legendary, I'd say that Gears on Insane was harder. As for the sniping bit, yes if you run out straight into the middle firing from the hip then every single one of those snipers is going to draw a bead on you and take your head off. Go through that bit slowly, use the battle rifle or covenant carbine and zoom in, you can kill them with one well placed headshot or burst from each.

Co-op on Legendary is too easy too, you need a few skulls on to make it more interesting.

If you are struggling on the first level I'd give up on legendary. I've just finished Tsavo highway and it was improbably hard, one particular bit where 16 brutes jump out of a plane to join the 8 you are already fighting, and a tank as well. The battle rifle really isn't up to much in those situations!

Actually I gave this another go and yes it's possible but tough on your own - a lot of the snipers are in really difficult to hit places just out of (my!) comfortable range with the battle rifle and even just getting them in the sights is difficult as you get about 2 seconds before you're dead! Level 2 was much easier for some reason - anyway, it's certainly a different game to normal or heroic and hopefully I'm improving smile

Finished it on Legendary last night. I'd play with a min of two. When one dies, the other retreats until you respawn. At least you can slowly work your way through the bad guys.

Slow and steady, picking them off one by one. Headshot snipes obviously work best.

Slightly OT, but do usb keyboards + mice work with Halo 3? I read a rumour they do, but haven't tried it myself.

No they don't. You can use mice and keyboards for typing messages over XBox live, but there is no support for them in-game, you used to be able to get an adaptor for the old XBox that would let you use a PS2 mouse and keyboard for games, I tried it on Halo a few times and it wasn't as responsive as a PC and I was just as good with the pad.

Agreed

You don't really appreciate how good a game Halo is until you have played it on Legendary, Solo.

It is supposed to be nearly impossible, but not quite. I have been stuck for hours of gameplay at a single checkpoint before.

In comparison the hardest level of difficulty on Gears of War was a stroll in the park.

Unfortunately, I don't have that sort of free time.

hehe

Some checkpoints can feel like a chore, but it is worth it for other moments.

Legendary forces you to be more creative and to find the 'right' way of doing a checkpoint.

To take one example- Flying a Banshee in Halo 1. On the lower levels of difficulty this is rather easy once you have the hang of it. You can win the dogfights fairly easly. However on Legendary I was getting hammered sometimes and simply could not get through one checkpoint. Until one time I flew down into a cave. Hopped out the Banshee and then took out the two Banshees who had followed me with a rocket launcher.

It's why I maintain you don't realise how good a game Halo is until you've done it on legendary.

Same here, although that's beginning to get 'easy' now, time to find and activate more skulls i think...
