just treated myself now price dropped a bit.
question.. is there a quick way to swap between output formats for when I swap from my projector to my old telly, as the telly wont like it. Or will it still output standard res to the analogue output when set for 720/1080 hdmi. Or what? etc

btw got HDMI running into the project.. really crisp picture even at a daft size. Not so blown away with the quality of th eBlue Ray movie that came with (Fantastic Four) didnt seem a load better than regular, to my eye.
I need to update the OS on the system as it's 1.5 or thereabouts so quite out of date. Trouble might be that the wireless router is at the other end of the house!

If your PJ is a 720p native model, it maybe that it does not accept the 1080p signal native to the Blu-ray, and may be loosing half the Blu-ray resolution de-interlacing the 1080i signal.
Firmwares after 1.8 have the option to scale Blu-rays to 720p and do a very good job of it, you may find they look better after the upgrade.

I think 1080i works by holding the first field in memory, and outputting a complete 1080p image after both fields are received. In effect, halving frame rate, not resolution. It depends on the displays implementation.
I theory 1080i 60 should be able to perfectly reconstruct 1080p30 (or 1080p24) from film based source, as like you said the first field should be "held" until the second field in sent and then they should be merged (weaved) together.
However many (especially older) displays simply line double (bob) the first field (discarding the second) halving the verticle resolution.
And then even the displays which can weave can have problems with cadence detection, get out of sync and merge fields from consecutive frames causing the artifacts you mentioned on moving objects

Excellent.. I'll update it asap. Yes its a Panasonic AE 900 which is 720p unit that I've got. A while back pal brought his x box over & we tried 720p and 1080i.. both worked but we found the lower native resolution looked a little better. Firmwares after 1.8 have the option to scale Blu-rays to 720p and do a very good job of it, you may find they look better after the upgrade.
