If you didn't already know, the demo of 'the demo' will be available on the PSN store in around 17 hours... with one problem, only people with Japanese accounts PSN will be able to download it. However, with a little bit of effort, you can setup a Japanese PSN account and be racing 16 cars on Suzuka this weekend... otherwise it's a month long wait before it'll hit the Euro store.

Before we get onto how, here's the info for the demo...

Finally, here's how to setup a Japanese account on your PS3, don't worry, nothing bad will happen, everything on your PS3 will remain the same... you'll just have a 2nd account which has access to the Japanese store. Sadly, the Japanese store will be in Japanese, but just click on the pic of the GT5 Prologue demo and it'll take you to the download page.

After it's downloaded, change your user back to the usual account, install and have a great time!

If anyone bothers to download it, and also has a 360 with Forza 2, a few thoughts in due course on how they compare would be interesting smile

I've never been a huge fan of GT handling, but from what I played at the Tokyo Game Show, I was enjoying myself much more than the GT:HD demo, apparently they're redesigned the physics from the ground up in the past few months and it certainly showed.

Is this quoted somewhere, as I can't get online at home at the moment, and work blocks the Gran-turismo.com site...

:O

Quite simply, amazing.

Only fault is the annoying tyre-squeal on even the most normal corners... but GT has always been like that.

Apart from that, the cars have more grip, and shift their weight properly, the interior views are STUNNING, even down to the guys gloves, which look like real fabric, the other cars look like they're really pushing, and I actually havent won a race yet. The glints of light off the bodywork, the other drivers steering and counter-steering as they go wide, the scenery.. all perfect.

I love this demo, and it made me glad that I bought a PS3. Xbox better watch out, next year is the year of the PS3.

// back to GT5.

Well myself and Slinky have just given it a go and 1st thoughts are very very impressed.

Graphics wise its ultra pretty but that was expected, although I did spot the slightest bit of screen tear twice.

The AI is improved, We both had proper battles to try and get through the field which was most enjoyable, The replay videos show this well.

The best news is the physics engine seems to have had an overhaul, its a lot tighter and smoother to play but still with a nice amount of challenge to get right. The cars we raced had their own characteristics, for instance the GTR had loads of power and grip but with a firm delivery where as the EVO was a bit lighter on its feet with a lovely bit of lift off oversteer.

Considering its only a demo Im impressed and its just left me wanting more. Interested to hear what everybody else thinks.

I'll translate the pre-race menu for everyone

Transmission: AT/MT
Simulation: Normal/Professional
Stability Control: On/Off
Traction Control: 0-10
Front Tyre: R3 is the stickiest I think
Rear Tyre:

Then the buttons at the bottom:

Left one: Cancel
Right one: Start

If you want to change your controls, go to options, choose the middle controller picture, find the button you wish to assign and click it, a drop down menu will appear for you to select what the button does. Here's the translation

Accelerate
Brake
Gear Up
Gear Down
Reverse
Handbrake
Camera Change
Rear View
Do Nothing

Again, the bottom buttons are:

Left one: Cancel
Right one: OK (but I guess this one is obvious)

and the handling!

What happens when you turn into a slow corner with a TVR and give it some welly? Oversteer...or plough on understeer into the barrier??!
