Personally Xbox 360 all the way. Haven't had any probs with mine and it's over a year old now. Live is brilliant, raft of games available.

Did hear that the PS3 has not got rumble in the controllers because they couldn't fit it in now they've gone for the motion sensors in them, not sure if it's true? Until the HD-DVD thing settles down I can't see the point of choosing a system on the merits of HD-DVD or Blu-Ray either.

I think Sony have defo missed the boat. Played on a Wii at the weekend, superb bit of fun, next purchase for me I thunk!

Which one has the most games you want to play?

Buy that one.

Easily the 360, but the topic has been done to death.

Reasons :

Forza 2
PGR4
Bioshock
Halo 3
COD 3

+
COD4
Assasins Creed
HL2 The Orange Box
Mass Effect
Star Wars Complete Saga

It was a patent issue, Imersion owns patents to rumbling joypads, Sony didnt want to pay the license fee.

Back to the topic: If your a games player, get the 360. Naff all decent on the ps3 at the minute.

PS3 for me, dont have an axe to grind with the 360 but it just wasnt what I wanted especialy with the reliability issues.
The main selling points for me were.

No more added costs, i.e network adaptor include, online service is free.

Blu Ray player.

DVD upscaling.

Bluetooth conectivity.

Its now the media centre for my whole house with all my music, pics and video going through it to the tv and surround sound, this can all be controlled from anywhere in the house due to the bluetooth remote.

Build quality.

ETA oh and rumble has just been announced

Games.
Call of duty 4
Assasins creed
GT5
Home
Little big planet
Uncharted drakes fortune
Haze
Unreal tournament 3
Ratchet and Clank
Motorstorm
Resistance fall of man
Afrika
Final fantasy XIII
Metal gear solid 4
Killzone 2
This is just scratching the surface.

I guess the best thing is to do some googling about both and see whats out and whats coming out for both and see which one suits your needs better.

I was keeping it real, some of those are literally years away.

You must have a tiny house if the remote works everywhere, bluetooth has a range of 10m.

It's possible to name a whole pile of other 360 games as well, I just named the more popular ones. You can add to that :

Prey
Far Cry
The Darkness
Lost Planet
Condemned (1+2)
F.E.A.R
Blacksite

IMO there is no comparison for game selection.

And once again somebody jumps on my back because I like the PS3, just dont understand the current negativity towards it.

I was'nt telling anybody that one was better than the other just discussing the points why I bought it as the OP asked. Is it so hard to believe that its a very good system with loads of future potential?

ETA Also 50% of the games youve listed are also for PS3

Well yes, it is biggrin

(Disclaimer: I own both systems, and a Wii and so don't feel the urge to defend one over the other because i happen to have invested in only one)

PS3 = Good for science simulations
Sh*t for games

Because it really doesn't have many decent games at the moment over the 360. For me personally, Resistance : Fall of Man and Haze are probably the only 2 decent exclusive titles.

I'll still be getting one in the future though.

hehe

These threads are brilliant.

I've got a PS3 & I love it. It has enough good games on it for me, It has blu-ray, It doesn't break down every 5 minutes and then 4 weeks to be fixed. It has greater potential than the 360 (according to some gaming channel on bravo).

But then, the standard retort from the 360 fangimps is "BUT THINK OF THE GAMESSS!!!!11".

Frankly, this subject is debated on here more than 'Westfield vs Caterham'.

To be honest if you wouldve said that 2 months ago I wouldve agreed about the games but sorry thats just not true anymore. Also I didnt buy mine for just the games, hence im very happy with it.

I think why I defend it is that I hear and see so much B/S and missinformation posted about it.

They are gaming consoles for people who enjoy games.

It has greater computing potential, like number crunching, but that not what games are about. It has inferior graphics hardware, which no amount of superior computing can fix, it has inferior amounts of RAM [vram], which again, no amount of superior computing can fix, it has a slower-than-a-dvd bd-drive, which, you guessed it...

Now, if we forget all about games, and pretend the ps3 is just a media player, then yes, its neat!

These console holy wars are amusing though. You can keep your very average resistance-fall-of-man, i'll stick to gears, halo, etc, etc...

I have them both, but agree with the sentiments that there really are no good games on it and even the big hitters like ratchet and clank etc all seem to be getting average reviews rather than outstanding ones.

Still think the PS3 is great, prefer it to the XBox for my media centre needs. But the 3 killer killer games (MGS4, Final Fantasy 13 and GT5) keep getting pushed back and I would be quite willing to wager that we won't see GT5 until 2009.

At the moment there really isn't anything to discuss about which has the better games, even taking into account the next 6 months the 360 is so far ahead in that regard that it isn't even a fair race.

No, if you really enjoyed movies and wanted a blu-ray player you would have bought a decent separate blu-ray player, not a plasticky console. That's the sort of thing teenagers or students do.

In any case you've just lost any credibility in the gaming argument.

YOu can take GT5 off that list seeing as it won't be out for over a year.
