You can download demo's of forthcoming games and there are games available under the xbox live arcade, these are mostly old school retro games or just little puzzley games but some of them are still pretty good 
To download them you need to have the 360 connected to the internet and have a full 'Gold' Membership with xbox live (about £40 for the year).

All you have to do is photocopy your receipt and write down the serial number on the back of your 360, I then write my serial down on the same form then post it, we will both get emails with codes to download our games.
Here are the games.

Me for one, never had a problem with the PS3, always people around when I fancy a game. Have played mates 360's online and call me what you will but I personally dont see alot of difference between the 360/PS3. You get to play the games online, yeah, you can play different games online but thats about it. But eh, doesnt matter at the end of the day, you either have a 360 or PS3 and your happy with it
With XBox live it's a doddle to see who is playing what, invite them to a game, or get invited to a game and it's a simple case to just slot the disc in the drive and XBox live sorts it all out.
With PSN (for the forseeable future) you simply can't see who is playing what, you could be sat there playing Motorstorm without realising that all your mates are playing on Resistance without a clue you're even there. The only way of knowing who is doing what is by going back to the home menu and checking there.
There's also the online messaging functionality built-in, you can chat away on MSN whilst playing your favourite games, connect with PC Gamers to play games with them, or look up in-depth scoreboards and download replays and stats of all the games, ala Halo 3 and the Bungie.net site.
£40 is also the top-whack you'll pay for such a service, a bit of shopping around will knock £10 off this and getting the subscriptions from America via Ebay means you can get it for about £25 for the year, something I don't mind paying for at all, especially considering I could be playing a couple of MMORPGs on my PC and paying almost as much as I do for playing my entire XBox library.

Just to clarify you DO NOT need a Gold account to download any demos, Live games or free content. You just need to setup a standard Silver account.To download them you need to have the 360 connected to the internet and have a full 'Gold' Membership with xbox live (about £40 for the year).

This enables you to do everything apart from play games online.
