PS3 digital audio

OK, how the bloody hell do I get my PS3 to output on the digital audio cable. When try to change the settings they seem to revert to default.

Have you got it to work but then when you next turn on the PS3 the settings are reverted?

or are you not able to get it working at all?

If the latter:

are you moving to the next screen after selecting optical audio?

you do this by pressingt he right on the d-pad then x to confirm.

Then you have to select all the audio formats your amp support over the optical link. Then right on d-pad and x again to confirm.

Any good?

I can get sound out of the Hdmi cable but my amp doesn't support hdmi, only the tv. I just cant get the bloody thing to output sound via the optical cable.

I personally just run an optical cable in to the back of my system. If the game has DTS im quids in. Dont now if it'll support HDMI output or whatever, must look in to it. Im happy with the HDMI picture, sound comes second !!

You can only output audio to one connection at a time so if you are using HDMI audio it will not output over the optical digital link.

I run HDMI to my projector and optical digital to my AV amp and it works fine.

Had a play last night, should go something like below:

Go to Sound Settings, select Optical, press right d-pad and then X.

Select all the audio formats (DTS, DD, PCM) your amp aupports and right d-pad and the X again.

Then I think you select Finish and X again and Bob's you uncle

Have you not contradicted your self? You say you select HDMI, but still can use optical??????

Sorry HDMI for video to my projector (projectors don't have speakers, or at least mine hasn't ), and Optical digital to my AV Amp.

You can either set up the audio separately by using the Audio Settings or you can configure it straight after you've set up your video - as it asks you then if you would like to configure your audio. The default is to use HDMI for Audio but you have the choice of HDMI, Optical Digital or Stereo outputs.

I've decided to buy a new av AMP which has HDMI switching. Can't be assed buggering about. There goes another couple of k.

Why don't you run the digital optical cable from your TV output to the Surround Sound Amp?

Should be just as good, as it will be HDMi from PS3 to TV, then Digital Optical from TV to surround.

Added bonus is this way you also have Digital Surround for ordinary TV should you wish.

Unless your HD TV doesn't have optical out of course, in which case ignore me!
