Just bought a 32" HD LCD today. Hooked up the X Box with an HDMI lead, all was good.

Tried to play a DVD and only got the picture, no sound. confused

Any ideas why and a possible remedy?

Does your TV accept audio over the HDMI? IT should be there.

Strange, I get sound with my DVD's and also have an HDMi connecting my 360 to my 32" Samsung.

Did you try other DVD's to make sure it's not just a fault with that one?

Have you got the white and red stereo leads plugged in too? As they do the sound for the HDMI, the 3 other plugs, blue green and something? are for picture alone. For some reason on my TV, with the HDMI cable I can get sound on one channel, picture on the other, but not both on the same. To remedy this, I just plug the RCA's into my stereo for sound. I do have one of the earlier HD TV's though (Doesn't have a HDMI slot just DVI) so thats what I put my problem down to.

HDMi is one composite cable that transmits sound as well as picture, I think you're confusing it with the HD Component cables wink

Don't use HDMI on the 360 (i do on my ps3) but have you tried changing the sound format to something your tv might accept ?
