Autumn Xbox 360 update

Just in case anyone was interested, the autumn xbox360 update is due very soon, and contains a few cool things.

The main thing for me though, is that Divx is now supported! woohoo!

Main update for me is that they are finally allowing you to change the email address you registered your gamertag to

Main thing for me is that they are adding movie rentals as an option to international countries.

I've got a yank account and you should see the choices of HD movies you can get! They are reasonably priced as well.

Divx support is great. Might start ripping my DVD collection to my PC now.

Really wish they would give us a browser now. With the messenger keyboard, it would be awesome.

Just updated now (in my lunch hour) not had time to test media playback, but its a LOT faster than before, especially indexing 80 or so xblive games which seemed to take a while for me before.

Well, I can now stream xvid content directly onto the 360 using WMP11 which is nice.

However, it won't play any of my .264 HD videos in my WMP11 library and as that's starting to become the standard for HD content downloads then that will become a problem very quickly. (unless I have something setup incorrectly in my system, but there aren't many options to play with and I can play the HD just fine in WMP11 on the serving PC from the library, the xbox doesn't even have them in it's list as available to play unless I rename them as a .avi, it then lists them but say they are in an unsupported format when you try and play them.)

My Windows Media Centre won't even connect anymore, but I'm running on a new network and didn't try this before the update, so this may be unrelated.

All in all, xvid works, but still behind the times and ultimately pretty useless for me as the world is moving on to .264

H264 would be finicky with the connection i imagine, i have a lot 1080i/p material on the ps3 which is apparently 30mbps+ which most home wireless setups would struggle with.

If your interested in 360 media playing, try TVersity. It uses UPnP to host files and has on-the-fly-transcoding aswell for platforms which don't support every format, including the 360. It's free too.

Doesn't work with a NTFS formatted MyBook, haven't got a FAT32 formatted external to try i'm afraid.

FAT32 will work, for some reason the xbox doesnt read NTFS.

Can you create a yank xbox live account to get the movie downloads if they're US only?

Other annoyance is that filenames have to be in name.avi format. It wont recognise name.codec.avi. Oh, and it seems to be a bit dumb when it comes to folders.

i signed up for an account but it wont let you download them.
