Nintendo Wii - Educate me

Just found out (10 mins ago) we've won a Wii in a raffle. I'm still in the land of PS2 and have never considered moving on. What good about the Wii? What are the best games? Everything looks a bit cartoony to me. Traditionally i've like games like GT4, MGS series, resident evil, grand theft auto. What might satisfy me on the Wii?

Resident Evil is really good on the Wii, very different

Somone I spoke to in the pub earlier said to sell it, which I'm now considering. But lets assume for the time being that I'm going to keep it.

Resident Evil, a good suggestion, I'm almost certain to get. Do I choose Umbella Chronicles, or RE4?

What else though? I've played Wii Sports briefly and got bored quite quick. I wasn't drunk though. I like the sound of of SuperMario Galaxy just because it looks fun on the telly ad.

I have a Wii, It fun but its not in the same league as the XB360 and if there going for that sort of cash on Ebay, i would sell it now and buy a 360/PS3 with the money. When they do become easily available at the proper price, maybe get one then.

Same here, do not get Metroid Prime 3 on this basis its not as fun as you think it will be and not to have a multiiplayer mode is criminal. My copy is being handed back for something else on the weekend...

Get Zelda and Mario if you want to play alone also if you want a party game get the new olympics game which looks like great fun!

Thanks for the suggestions . Looks like it's staying, the Mrs fancies it, that's my excuse anyway. I've just finished plugging it all in and had a quick go at tennis to make sure it works. I also downloaded the free videos of Metroid Prime, didn't really look my sort of thing, too much shooting and not enough anything else. Is it worth paying for the web browser, does it work ok?

It has come with three games, Ratatouille, Carnival Games and Surf's Up but I've not opened them yet. We also got a box of cheep looking plastic attachments to turn the controller into a tennis racket or golf club!

I'm thinking I'm going to get Mario Galaxy and then Zelda or Tomb Raider or Medal of Honour. Any thoughts on those last two?

I've realised I've already got Resident Evil 4 for the PS2 so I wont be buying that. I'm going to head to Gamespot to read some reviews now.

if you like odd puzzle games, give Trauma Centre: Second Opinion a try. It's good.
Zelda, hell yes.
The mario games are usually very playable and generally enjoyable for all ages.

And it'll play GameCube games as well, so snoop around there for some bargins.

I'm ignoring the SNES, NES, Megadrive, Mastersystem, stuff on the internal market

If you thought there was too much shooting and not enough anything else in the Metroid vid then I'm questioning why you'd consider Medal of Honour, there is plenty of other stuff to do in Metroid, yet shooting people is all you'll do in MoH.

Tomb Raider is an unknown quantity at the moment, it could be excellent, or it could be yet another game that they've tried to tack on 'Wii-Gimmicks' to that will turn out to be rubbish.

If they can get the motion gameplay perfect then it will be great, otherwise it will be the most frustrating game ever, as you waggle the stick trying to get Lara to make that long jump and she falls to her doom yet again, all because the controls are crap.

It comes with Sports, it's the only good game, once you get bored of it (about 2 weeks) sell it for loads and buy a 360/PS3.

I got talked into buying a Wii over the xbox 360 by the other half and the kids i was quite supprised how much fun it can be as we've only got the sports game at the moment which has by far the most advanced tennis game on it ok the graphics are nothing to right home about but its just so much fun when there's a group of you, the bowling is just superb and that one keeps the kids quiet too.

I must admit it the wii was not my first choice that's why i now have a xbox360 hence i leave the wii to the kids its the best keep em quite console i've ever bought so worth every penny but when it comes down to the real hardcore stuff you can't beat the 360

Rabbids1 is better than Rabbids2. We've got both.

Super Paper Mario is quite nice really. But it's not the ultimate gaming experience.

I'm still resolutely "meh" about the Wii. Mario Galaxy looks good - the nipper had a quick go on it the other day and it looks fun.
I'd say the games designed for the Wii are the best on it.
Deffo the most fun with friends tho. Be prepared to shell out £50 for each Wiimote and Nunchuck pair tho.


X360 would be my choice every time.

The Wii was quite popular in our household until we got Guitar Hero 2 on the 360, it's rare to find a game the Missus would want to play, she's on that all the time.
