I'm a bit of a numpty when it comes to PS2 stuff. I don't know what's hot, what's not and so I sit there playing the same old things over and over.

What are the best games for the PS2, with the following caveats:
  • No sports except driving, and I've got Burnout 3/4 and GT4;
  • RPGs don't do it for me
The last game I bought was We Love Katamari, and that's great. The one before that was Shadow of the Colossus, and I can't get into it.

Gran Turismo 4 is good but the one I keep going back to again and again is Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Even when you get bored of the missions there is so much scope for just messing around it's brilliant!

I could never get Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas to pay on my machine, tried a few diferent disks no joy. But the Grand Theft Auto games are great just for messing around, drive by shootings, wheelies and stoppies on bikes, jumping rivers in cars, messing about in helecopters and boats. Great

GTA series are great, always played them on PC though so not sure what the Playstation versions are like. San Andreas probably the best, although Vice City has an awesome soundtrack... paperbag

On the driving front I also have Enthusia, but it really needs a steering wheel to play and as a result I never properly got into it, too much hassle to lug the wheel between PC and console all the time.

I quite liked the look of that bike game from Polyphony, Tourist Trophy I think, but unfortunately my PS2 was exiled to the stack of old technology before I got round to playing it.

Katamari was the last PS2 game I bought. Before that it was Resident Evil 4. Both great games.
I always had a soft spot for DDR on PS2... Shame they don't do them for 360 frown

The original Metal Gear Solid game was the best game I have ever played at the time. Walk though a puddle and alert the guards, run and hide and stopped looking for you...so cool

I have to agree with the GTA series comments, amazingly fun games
one of my favourite game serioes has to be the timesplitters series, amazing FPS. also the recent Prince of Perisia series (sands of time, warrior within, 2 thrones) almost lifelike cut scenes

Whilst they are very good games, I've never thought they were great games. They still haven't sorted the control system out!

The metal Gear games are positively awesome. I've never had a problem with the control system, always found it rather simple/instinctive? The first one on PS1 was truly groundbreaking, just for details like the puddles mentioned earlier. Basically introduced 'sneaking' games to the masses, spawning other successful spy titles like 'Splinter Cell'. Definitely worth a purchase, as the story is always gripping - truly cinematic. bow

I've also been mashing the game Timberwolf mentioned earlier - Tourist Trophy. Just to make it clear, I'm very much a car nut and not particularly in to bikes, and I'd never have believed it possible but I actually prefer it to Gran Turismo. There's just so many more variables in terms of possibles approaches to bends, lines, when/how to brake etc.. so when me and a mate play '3 lap beat the ghost challenge' you can end up riding entirely different laps and coming up with equal times. Add to that bumpy tracks like Deep Forest where too much aggression will kick you off the bike and this game will have you hooked for hours. HIGHLY recommended - as said probably even better than the 'holy' GT4... eek

I like drifting on GT3. Dunno why. GT4 doesn't feel right.

Well done that man smile
I was lead game tester on that for EA. It was a much bigger game before they had to cut out two modes to make the deadline!
It was my baby.
The record in our team was for easy mode to be completed in under 2hours.
I believe I was the first one to complete Black ops mode in the team smile

ive been playing grandturimo 4 on ps3, it bumps up graphics, its godamn brilliant, i got xbox360 with all the pgr4 and forza but theres just something about the game that is a drivers game. i must admit the drifting gets a bit snatchy but a few settings later and your fishtailing all over.
also i never knew it had so many cars.
