Is Halo the best franchise ever?
Discussion
I've been playing halo online since the days of halo 1 (where we used a PC as a pseudo server with gamespy). I have to say I don't like console / computer games generally since I hit 18yrs old but I love the halo series.
We have a tight group of friends and we play probably something like 10 hrs a week and never get bored (we are all in our thirties age wise!).
At the moment we've ranked up to 45 on Halo 3 on team slayer.
This all, despite the constant lag, which just shows how great this franchise is to still make us come back for more.
For me this has to be the best franchise ever !

Halo? Rubbish game. I never understood its popularity nor the tagline "Combat Evolved". Evolved? How so? By being an FPS that was on the XBox first?
The enemies were rubbish, the levels were rubbish, the weapons were rubbish and the plot was a half-baked amalgam of Alistair Reynolds (the flood was a direct rip of the inhibitors from the Revelation Space series) and Iain M. Banks Culture universe. (the drone Guilty Spark, the ship called "Pillar Of Autumn" and so on).
Best franchise? I'd like to say Doom - on the basis of longevity, resale value (they're still selling the original Doom games on Steam), technology and media. Half Life is a great series, but it hasn't had a film made out of it. I quite liked the Doom film
Yet.
Sheer numbers, however, may well dictate that Half Life wins it on software sales. Summat like eight million units shifted.

Halo isn't even top of it's genre, let alone an all time winner.

GTA for me, without a shadow of a doubt.
Although the sensi soccer thread had me checking out X360's this morning!
Might wait till new year sales though...

To save you counting, the Halo franchise is 31st in the list. So no, it is not the best Franchise out there for sales. And personally I would say the sales figures are correct, compared to pretty much every other FPS I have played Halo is seriously flawed in story, level, & weapon design. It is also far too sanitised for the kiddies and overly easy on basic setting.

To clarify I haven't got time for 1-player games (don't get any enjoyment out of them - the last one I played was mario 64 which was awesome but games are not as good anymore!) but when I refer to Halo I refer to the multiplayer aspect online.
Half Life would still beat it though, I doubt the number of Halo 3 players is anywhere near as high as those playing Counter Strike.I am new to Halo, and I've never really gotten into PC gaming. I suspect, therefore, that I am who Halo3 was aimed it. It's worked - I play about 10 hours a week, and have stopped playing everything else. I pretty much just play doubles with DrScupper. Feel free to add my GT (DrMekon).
