XBOX 360 on a HD tv!

i got a new tv at the weekend (42" LG)

the differance is amazing...everything is so crisp and clear

you f-ckers are dead on COD4 now i can see you properly

I take it you switched the little switch on the back of the xbox-cable-thing to HD, if not prepare to be amazed again

It was the same for me when I got an HD telly, then the same again when I found out I needed glasses.

OH MY GOD, LOOK AT THE PICTURE!!!

I can now see snipers from across the map now, shuffling about. thanks to my superman x-ray vision.

Now go into the settings and change the 360 res to the native res of your TV...

And make sure you're not using the evil yellow wire for the picture

I also find the picture even clearer & crisper through a VGA cable, and I know a few others on here have tried it and agree

I bought a 40" Sony Bravia 1080p in the january sales and it's stunning - but plug in a PS3 and the difference is just as stunning again!! As far as I recall, the Xbox 360 pushes out a 1080i feed, whereas the PS3 is proper 1080p. Regardless, the difference is amazing

That said, no amount of detail is enough to stop me getting whooped on COD 4

Just checked the link and it says that the picture is better through VGA than the component cables! Why is this?

Xbox is 1080p, but only a handful of games are proper 1080p, most are i, but upscaled. If you go to the setup blade in the dashboard, you can set to 1080p. It was a patch late last year that put it on there.

On the subject of 1st time HD, seeing my Xbox on an HDTV for the first time is one of those memories in life I wish I could erase and re-live again. I had the biggest grin on my face in a long while

your not kidding i COD4 was the first game i tried it out with and a really couldnt believe it then i thought..screw this i gotta get Forza2 on for a bit of nurburgring action

More pins. But if you want the best picture you'll use HDMI, since there's no analog step. Both Component and VGA are analog, so the Xbox's digital signal has to get converted, and then converted back to digital by the TV.

VGA has better resolutions, particularly ones that are native to your plasma or LCD (mine for instance is 1360x768 iirc). You need a good cable though, I still see faint horizontal banding sometimes in high contrast areas.

Hdmi carries audio too, much cleaner setup.

Im playing on a projector screen, its rediculous what you can spot sometimes, im still getting owned though

1080p is only available over HDMI - if you've an older Component based 360, then 1080i is the most you'll get via Component into the TV.

Doubt most of you will notice any real difference over 720p once engrossed in the game - so quit worrying about 1080p as if it's some Holy Grail. It's more marketing than anything below 50" screen size from typical viewing distances.

Tosh. HDMI is simply DVI with audio. Are you trying to tell me that VGA is better than DVI?

Regardless of resolution, one of them (VGA) has to go Digital>Analog>Digital, whereas the other is digital only.

I meant VGA compared to component cable, not HDMI, as per MadDaves post.

I agree with what your saying, HDMI is unbeatable.

Not true, it'll do 1080P over component but in my experience it's pants as you get a lot of ghosting. Via the VGA cable I get 1080P (and slightly higher if screen will take it) and the picture and colours are better.

If you have a newer 360 though use the HDMI socket.

There's also a 3rd party HDMI adapter for older boxes coming out that's supposed to do 1080P too.
