Has there been any more news on this being fixed? The past couple of evenings have proved rather bloody difficult to even get close to a game of CoD4, in the 2 hours of trying last night i got maybe 20 mins of game time. It's getting a bit stupid now.

It's been back to normal for me for a couple of days. However, apparently a class action has been started and so M$ will no longer provide a running commentary as to the service status. There's something about it on Kotaku and Major Nelson if you can be arsed to look.

How is this different to say, my broadband provider who when rang up, use the weather or any other random excuse to explain away my random disconnections.

The XBL servers have been swamped since chrimbo, I haven't been able to use the Forza 2 Auction house on the weekends since December. Apparently MS are aware of this and are offering free XBox Arcade games as compensations, though I've no idea how they will do this.

to be fair it's only really been since wednesday that i've had biiig problems. Normally it's an intermittent problem that requires a bit of patience but normally it works. Oh well, i blame the yanks

Hmmm, ok - over xmas and new year it was a real pain in the ring, which MS bowed to with the talk of an XBL arcade game, but I came back out to Germany on the 3rd Jan and I'll be honest there's been no REAL issues with it since then as far as I'm concerned - yes there's been occasions of lag in 18 player online games etc - but that's just normal run of the mill crap connections dragging the rest of the players down...in general I would say it's been running sweet now for 2 weeks

Last night we wondered if once again we had issues getting into CoD games on XBL when Rob (polarbert) was hosting, but the minute paul (scorp) took over the reigns it let us in first time after maybe 4-5 times on rob's connection - so it looked like someone was using rob's connection to download people riding animals in a non sporting fashion or something along those lines causing the issue...

What time are you trying COD4 ? Around 10ish is when the yanks come online and then the servers take a hit, usually resulting in a lot of effort to get into a game that will run properly.

I see Microsoft and Live has been blamed as usual, but probably cod4 servers unable to take the strain. They were doing exactly the same thing before the Xmas Live issues, and in fact, did the same thing during the beta as well.

What is your connection speed as well ? When it gets late, myself and another guy seem to be able to connect to, and play on servers with no problems (we are on 30mb), but, the rest of our party, who we try to join with, and are mainly on 2mb, get dropped constantly

yeah to be honest i'm starting usually around 8, so about when the yank kids get home from school. If its during the day on a saturday then its fine. So yeah maybe it is the CoD servers getting hammered. I don't play anything else online might try gears of war though.

anyone know if you change your contact details with a new msn thats on a different age it changes ?

i stupidly put my age to 16 when i got xbl (17 now) and i cant get msn
hoping of making a new msn, putting my age to 21 and switching contact details on xbox

Since i've changed my connection to cabled from wireless i've had no problems what so ever,before that i was lucky to get a game at all.
Maybe that was down to my router though i have to admit running a cable from the top floor to the middle is a bit of a pain in the arse but at least i get to play online now

My prepaid account expired on 16th January but I am still able to play online.

just as an aside to this, i tried Gears of War last night, and it got me a game and i could play almost instantly. I shall therefore bemoan CoD4 and it's inability to deal with lots of people rather than xbox live as a whole. The bugger is i want to play CoD and not GoW

Give it a few days, you'll see the charge deducted from your credit card account/bank account if you've got it on file.
