AVI files on xbox 360 problem!

Put a film onto disk in AVI format last night, watched about half of it (the godfather) and then it suddenly stopped and came up with the error: unsuported media type. Turned it off and started again and now it wont let me watch any of it. It works fine on my pc and my housemates dvd player. I also have the update for media etc that you have to have.

Any ideas?

I always stream my avi's from the PC to the Xbox and have had a few issues with incorrect media, but an update from Live has always sorted it.

Maybe the person that made your avi did it in chunks and encoded the 2nd half differently ?

More annoying is the fact that most of the HD content I download now is in MKV format, which Microsoft do not support and converting it to avi is a bit of a mare

Use TVersity (google it) it performs on-the-fly transcoding, in the case of container swapping (e.g. MKV -> AVI) it will only transcode the container and not the video packets (laymans terms = you don't need a quadcore 5ghz machine). It plays everything.

No any version windows will do, it's a gem of a tool.
