Xbox 360 problem

My xbox has developed a problem,the games all start ok then a green haze appears drowning out all the colours when i removed to games and went to the dashboard the same happend and the page with system settings which is purple was also half green.

Has anyone any idea what causing this or have had the same fault,i've tried the usual turn off,reconnect cables etc any help would greatly appreiated

Have you checked your system on another TV?
Do you have a fellow Xbox owner that could lend you a cable to eliminate that?

Interesting you mention this, i've seen a similiar effect on mine that happens sometimes, its like a pattern of moving dark dots which only occur on certain bright colours (orange, green, purple, etc). Quite annoying, and usually removed by a cold-reset.

Mine did something similar for an hour or so, then it Red-Ringed.

Make sure all the connections are nice and tight, but other than that be prepared to send it off to Bill.

i may be barking up the wrong tree, but ive had something similar where the colour is deformed (for want of a better word) and i think it was because the xbox was right next to the TV and causing some sort of interferance with the photons in the CRT

All cabels are tight fitting it started last week the only way i can describe it is like the picture has been solarised like the mode that's on some phones but its green tho and playing online last night it was just as tho i had the night sight on but of course in wasn't.

I have spoken to Xbox that was hard work as the young lady i spoke was foreign after 48mins[glad its free phone] the only answer they came up with it could be the comp cable other than that its off to Xbox which will cost me £65 as its out of warrentee[typical}

Have you tried using a different cable of a different type (e.g. composite video or SCART or something else?)

The green saturation thing is common when using some types of VGA output (Sync-on-green).

If it doesn't die of natural causes within the next couple of hours, then wrap it up in a towel until it red rings, then get it replaced for free...

Not yet i'm gonna try to borrow a cable and try that then see what happens.

Randomness to the full with my reply....I've been getting the exact same thing, only not with my xbox - but with my satellite receiver - the tv shows perfect colour when I switch to the DVD or xbox...I just turn off the sat rec'r and fire it up again and it works perfectly again...something bloody weird going on...

Yeah, remember to towel anything over 1 year. When mine busted, I was so annoyed that I forgot to do this, but then as luck would have it, 'cos I sent my warranty card in a couple of months late, I was still under warranty.

And I got a wireless headset for being a moaner (it's st, but it was free).

I've also just tryed using the scart connection instead of HD lead [the differance in picture quality is really noticable] but within a few minutes the same problem appeared so baring complete cable change it looks like it'll be going back,thinking about it if there a fault with the cable wouldn't the fault be instant?

So, mine did this, the colours were all out of whack, very green on some levels, almost CGA like. Tried swapping cables, just don't get any output at all now.

So is the best thing to deliberately overheat it? it was bought for me as a gift, would the warranty be from when I had it replaced the last time it red ringed? or when it was purchased?

Just to throw in my current problem.

I have just recently migrated to Sky BB, and the XBox self test fails on the "MTU" setting... what do I need to do to fix that?!!

The odd thing is that occasionally it connects and works fine without me changing anything...

Any ideas?

I'm pretty sure MTU is something to do with packet size, that aside, it's a setting you need to change on the new router you have, should be in your instructions how you do it,

so change it to 1365 I guess?

MTU is to do with packet fragmentation, it is the maximum unit of data that can be sent, larger values mean faster network but also impact on reliability should packets need resending because of error (obviously smaller MTU values help on a "noisy" network but will trade off some performance).

You can change these in your router. Probably the reason it fails randomly is because the router is hitting errors and so reduces the packet size to try and work around it, xbox live see's this and throws its toys out of its pram.
