After having a play on the server yesterday im still gettins some problems with cars dissapearing, which is annoying for me and for other players (if I crash into you when your invisible to me)

Ive been reading on the rfactor forums about connection settings and I wanted to ask you guys to check your settings.

It also says on the rfactor forums that its best to underestimate your connection speeds, especially on upload.

Im not sure if my problems are related to my own settings, the server or other players settings, but it wont hurt if we all check our settings.
I suspect the problems are caused by some of you guys using the wrong settings, as some players never disspaear, and others often do.. and its allways the same people.

To check your settings go to the connect menu, then the settings tab. you can alter Upload and downlaod in there.

If your not sure what settings to use then go to www.speedtest.net and run the test. from what ive read its best to set your upload and download to the same value, and to set the upload slightly less than your connections maximum. Personally I got 3875/240 on the test, but ive set 200/200 in the game. This should be more than enough to get a decent ping.

if you set your rates too high then your ping will be low, but more data will get "lost".. and you will get stuttering and dissapearing cars (or you may dissapear for others)
Set your rates too low and your ping will be higher, but the connection will be more stable.

Thanks for checking these settings guys biggrin
Hopefully this will help with my dissapearing cars problem.

I dont know how many of you changed your settings but the dissapearing cars problem was much better for me in the last race.

I think I might be one of the frequent ghostees.

I changed mine to 128/255 (yeah, should be 256 - it only goes in '5' increments if you start tweaking it) which is way lower than I actually get just to be safe.

Did it make a difference?

Holst and Tom were the only cars that did the Ghost trick last night for me.

I checked my settings after the race last night and they were still on ISDN (64/64). I'd never touched the settings so they were just default. I changed them to 200 up, 1000 down but if equal settings make for better results then I'll change it to 200/200 for the next race and see how that goes.

Cheers
