Guitar Hero 3........
Discussion
My kids want to get Guitar Hero 3, I've seen the Tv ad with Slash & it looks great (air guitar and video game
), a few questions;
Is it any good?
What consoles is it available for? (at the moment we have PS2, Wii & PC but may be getting an Xbox)
Is it better on any particular console than another?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

We have guitar hero 3 for the ps3.
I belive that it is available for the wii so that would save you purchasing a new console.
The game is very good especially as a party game, mind you possibly because of my age my fingers don't move as fast as my brain wants them to
My 13 year old daughter absolutly rocks at it though

Because its actually the guitar you use it doesn't matter which console you use for their control.
Also as its not really a game based on its graphics, just its gameplay it doesn't really matter which console you have it on.
I think its a great game, and has good length, as it takes time to get good. But its addictive and competitive.
Highly recommended

I think it has a few less chart songs, but according to all the reviews GH2 plays better.
It's all down to the hammer-ons/pull-offs when you're playing the faster stuff.
I've got GH3 on order so will give you a comparison when it arrives.
You can download extra songs anyway. Ace of Spades is worth it, but i'd save my cash on most of the others.
And it's got Freebird, "Woman" by Wolfmother, and Killing In The Name by RATM

And I doubt unless OPs kids are the lovechildren of slash and jimi hendrix they are going to notice a problem with hammer offs are they?
LOL, actually my son does play guitar, although not quite at Slash/Hendrix level (yet) but said he wants to get the latest version especially because of the tracks.I see the game is sold with 1 guitar, presumably it can also be played in 2 player, 'duelling Banjo' mode with an extra Guitar?

Can you use a GHIII guitar on GHII??
On the 360 I might add.
Yes it does. One plays lead and the other plays bass. Playing through on hard and I'm struggling with it now. It's easy when there's only 4 buttons press but once you go onto 5 I' lacking the 6th finger, so moving your hand un and down the buttons is taking some getting used to.On the 360 I might add.
We have guitar hero 2, 3 and 80's for the PS2. Have played it on wii but the controller is very plasticky the Playstation ones are better.
All the games are good but different. They just take a bit of getting used to (as there is a bit of lag which you can anticipate or calibrate) but are no more difficult than each other.
We have a wired guitar and a wireless one. You don't always have to have one player on bass in two player mode. On co-op career you both play the main tune in sections.
An excellent game - I'm addicted!
We got Guitar Hero 3 from HMV before Christmas for £45.

I've got guitar hero on 360 and loved it! Once completed all songs on medium and easy, got a bit boring though! There's loads of ones to buy from the shop (Using game money, not real money) which are harder so give a bit more variation. I don't have an extra finger, and have small hands, so cannot play Hard for love nor toffee...

Yes it's excellent. Got it on my 360 with wireless guitar and it's a right laff. Kids love it, although it's especially embarrassing when you're giving it all to 'Welcome to the Jungle' and your neighbour spots you through the living room window as they walk past...Is it any good?

GH3 solus turned up last night, was playing it with the GH2 wired guitar (on a 5m USB extension
).
It's slightly more difficult than GH2 and the first few set lists are rubbish.
The 7yr old can do Surrender etc on GH2 but failed in tears on GH3.
The hammer ons and offs ARE different and I dropped a few notes as a result.
Seems OK tho - the list of songs is pretty good.
Didn't notice it showing the best scores off your friends list tho. That was good in GH2.
All in all, it's OK. Wireless guitar would good and the one in GH3 looks better. Buy one, pick up the solus edition of the other secondhand
