Wii/Projector

Afternoon,

I have an epson projector (specs at the bottom) and was wondering whether a wii would look ok on it. The reason I ask is that our ps2 looks garbage (looks crisp on our crt but really bad on the projector) while tv and dvds look great. If the wii would look sharp then we'd probably buy one as a 72" display would be pretty cool to play all the fun games on but if it looked as fuzzy as the ps2 then we wouldn't bother.

Any ideas?

Get a component cable for the Wii and it will look better than the PS2, but I wouldn't expect miracles if the PS2 looks terrible.

On the component output the Wii outputs at 480P (or can be set to 480i), now although this is the native resolution for NTSC, it's not thenative resolution of the projector, therefore a significant amount of scaling will be involved, resulting in the graphics looking a little blurred.

I guess terrible was an exageration... it just looked a bit blurrier than on the tv. Having said that we did hook up the n64 to the projector for a beer session once and play mario kart and while that looked very blurry it was still good fun... I'm hoping the wii will be a similar experience.

Sounds like you've got a data projector(ie its designed to be used to display from computers).

I cant imagine its too hot with the tv or dvd either since none of the resolutions listed match up with common outputs for ski or dvd players.

Without buying a new projector I dont think theres much you can do.


I'd reccomend it though, I run my Xbox through a projector and its fantastic especially in HD.

I did wonder about that but it is a proper tv projector rather than a data projector. I asked my mate who knows more about these things and he said they do match up but have some oversampling or something (compensation for overscan he said). Anyway, telly looks ok (well, as good as sky ever does) and dvds look fantastic.

The black strip above the bar in that pic is the projector screen (rolled up obviously) and is pretty effing massive and wii sports looks ok whenever I've been in. Styoodents go mad for it, you can never get a shot.

Just to follow this up as the wife unwrapped the wii (birthday present) this evening and it looks pretty fine on the projector
