Currently thinking of getting a new console, but not sure which to get.

I have had a 360 which broke so I stripped down and messed about with before the 3 year RROD death warranty kicked in.

So i have got some games and hard disk for a 360.

I haven't really seen a PS3 working.

Not really interested in movies HD/Blu ray, but would like to be able to play DIVX stuff that I have downloaded on my other computer.

I prefer driving games if that makes a difference. I really liked Forza 2 on the xbox before it broke. And will be looking at getting GTA 4.

Any suggestions on which to get?

If you already have games and a HDD from a 360 and you have no interest in Blu-Ray then I think the choice has already been made for you...

360 basic costs £160 nowadays:

So it's either a 360 that you already have games for + a spare £200 to spend on it

OR

A PS3 with no games.

Have all of the heating and reliability issues of the Xbox 360 been solved now?

I'm surprised you dignified that garbled response with an answer...

To the original poster;

You can't go wrong either way, 90% of the games released today are multiplatform titles so you'll get them on either system, the remaining 10% are the system sellers that cause 99% of the heated debates on which console is best. You have to make a choice though and whichever way you go, you're onto some killer system-specific titles. The only way to truly be a smug git is to buy both and then you can dip into the arguments from both sides and still come out a winner.

Yes the new 175w HDMI ones have revised inetrnals and seem a lot more reliable.

Any version. All the elite adds is the (upgradable) 120gig HDD and black box (& HDMI cable I think).

Careful you don't get confused by that answer - the Elite comes WITH the cable but all latest 360's have an HDMI port - i.e. you can use HDMI but with the cheaper ones you'll have to supply the cable.

Also VIZ top tip, if you like the black appearance of the ELite but don't want to spend the extra cash, simply keep your 360 in a permanently darkened room.

Cheers guys

I decided to try and repair my old 360 so took it to work and melted the balls on the GPU and it all works. However the console is now barred from XBOX live frown bugger.. frown. The console was modded so far enough really.

So I will need to get another 360 for playing online. I have found the core with loads of games for £150 but I guess as it is the core then it is old stock. And I want to use the HDMI port on the console. So looks like I will need to get an Arcade pack (I already have a hard drive & wireless adapter) What is the best arcade package available online?

also what are the must have games at the moment? I have Forza 2. is PGR4 the one to get now? what else should I get?

You need to get Grand Theft Auto at the end of the month, then you don't need anything else for a good month or two.
