Used PS3 - good deal?

A mate is moving to the states and has offered me his 60Gb 1st Gen PS3 for 150 quid.

Is this a good deal?

he's got a few games at a tenner each - though I think only Resistance fall of man was interesting...

in all honesty i'd only be getting it for GT5 (prolouge for now, full next year) and maybe a F1 game - oh, and of course, the Blu Ray player.

So, the question is 150 a good price for one? (assuming in good nick etc) - does the 1st Gen have any problems? will it have the wi-fi etc?

any advice?

Yes. The 60gb's are better consoles. Backwards compatability, and I've never heard of one breaking. Mine has been as good as gold.

Another vote for do it, even if you decide to sell it later you'll still make a profit as the 60gb is the one everyone wants.

Mine hasn't broken, been good as gold.

My mate wasn't quite so lucky, he is on his 3rd. Each time it broke it was replaced immediately with a new 60GB one, and taken back to Sony HQ to find out what killed it.

I paid well over £300 for a 60gb on eBay last week (with a couple of games). I wouldn't hesitate.

its a year old, so i dont know about the warranty - but i've said okay...

just got to wait for a week to get it now!

That is an absolute bargain! I wouldn't consider selling mine (with games) for under 300.

I thought about buying a second-hand 60Gb one - they're supposed to be more desirable than the newer 40Gb one.

However, apparently it's possible to change the HDD in the 40Gb to any size you want, and in all honesty, I can't really even see my using it for much other than games. The 40Gb one has only 2 USB ports (nothing to stop use of a hub though!) and isn't backward-compatible with PS2 games (I only had my PS2 for GT4 anyway..!).

For those reasons, I bit the bullet and went for a new 40Gb one with GT5P from Currys for £299. Great bit of kit for the money, especially as it's a more-than-competent Blu-Ray player. Streaming content from a PC is a doddle and I've got 'Remote Play' working on the PSP as well.

I'm pleased all-in-all; at £150, you'd be daft not to get it!

ah okay - thats good to know...

Though he offered me his other games at a tenner each - I wasnt sure so said to take them and give him whatever i got trade-in at Blockbuster for them! (result... GT5 Prolouge here i come..)

£150 is an absolute bargain mate, just for the Blu-Ray capabilities alone!
