For those of you with PS3s I hope you never see this error.

While trying to play GTA3 I got this error, unable to read the disk. Tried a while later and it was OK. Tried again last night and it didn't even know it had a blu-ray drive, so no game found from disk.

Sony say they would replace it, but first step is to try and restore the disk to original settings to see if that clears the fault.

I backed it up first, onto an external USB hard disk, although you have to make sure it is formatted FAT32, otherwise it does not get seen. Strangely I have 30G of data on there, which surprised me. Then you restore to original settings, which formats the disk. I chose not to quick format, so it took over 3 hours (I went to bed and left it running). Then restoring it again this morning it seems to be working correctly, so fingers crossed.

If you search for this error there are lots of scarey pages out there telling you how it will need replacing, and it will reset all your PIN codes on your bank cards, and will text all your ex-partners with tales of undying love, but hopefully this is now all sorted.

Bad news, PS3 has failed again. Doesn't find any disks at all. Sony are being ace, and are replacing it on Thursday.
