Flood waters are rising and the eyes of the press and the public have turned to you, the UK's Flood Tsar, to limit the impact of the coming deluge. But what will you do?

This fascinating scenario faces the players of a new online flood simulation game, FloodSim.com, that has been launched by Norwich Union in conjunction with PlayGen, a London agency.

The game is played in the first person and as Flood Tsar, the decisions you make on such issues as; spend, housebuilding, planning or managing the UK's drainage system, will determine your success in the job.

As you work through the game you will meet ministers and policy advisers who will help with the decision making but ultimately, at the end of the game, a flood will hit the UK and you will see if your decisions have helped make the UK better prepared… or not.

The game has been developed to help raise flooding as an issue. It is light-hearted but deals with a very real and serious issue, not only for NU as a business but for millions of customers as well.

PlayGen managing director Kam Memarzia said: “This is a new way of making people aware of an issue of huge importance to the UK… We want people to respond… write to their MPs, find out about flood risk and make their voice heard.”

Norwich Union Public Affairs director Ben Welsh said: "While this project is only a game, it also shows that flooding is a very real threat and a variety of serious policy decisions need to be taken to manage this risk, often with a very limited budget."

The game can be played on floodsim.com

Oh I thought it was gonna be a free roaming sort of game set in a world/city where it's flooded, and you can go around exploring, doing tasks, scrounging stuff, whataver. That would be a good game.

It doesn't sound like it'll be very long-lived this one, and being backed by an insurance company is likely to lack flair or excitement. Prove me wrong though!

Needs more Sim City style "nuke the crap out of the UK for giggles" options
