Internet connection sharing with an xbox 360

Recently got a 360 and want to get myself on Live, but as I'm a cheapskate I'd like to avoid buying the wireless adaptor.

At the moment the 360 lives in my study next to my PC, my wireless router is in my lounge so the PC has a USB dongle. Is it possible to set up some sort of internet connection sharing software on my PC that will allow me to share my PC's wireless connection with my xbox 360 using my PC's network port and the network port on the 360? I know it will mean leaving the PC on whilst on Live, but thats not really a concern.

Mine is setup the same and I´ve used the network bridging in XP to allow the Xbox to use the PC´s wireless connection.

ICS is a world of pain and not suited to online gaming.
Just buy a long network cable otherwise expect lots of lag and dropout.
People will say otherwise but why not make things easier for yourself.

A long cable isn't really feasible it would have to go through the kitchen and across the lounge, I suppose I could route it up through the ceiling and back down but I can't be arsed, I doubt I'll play it that much. Is ICS or a bridged connection really crap then? What about those power-line adaptors any one use those for Live gaming?

I did try getting a bridged connection working last night, but failed, I'll give it another go tonight, do I need a hub/switch (or cross-over cable), I tried it with a standard cable.

Powerline adapters are perfect for this kind of setup, I and several others use them no problem. They're not terribly cheap - expect to pay between £50-£100 depending - but they're literally plug-and-play and give an absolutely rock solid connection. Highly recommended.

Which kind of negates the £50 wireless adapter he was trying not to fork out for

They look brilliant, i have been putting off getting a console due to rubbish wireless in my room, this might be the solution!

True but he did ask...and IMO they're miles better than crappy wireless Definitely worth shelling out the extra anyway.

I've found some for £40 a pair that have good reviews, so it will save a bit over the wireless adaptor. It also gives me the added benefit of improving my PC's connection, wireless can be flakey due to thick walls, and I find that if I'm downloading via wireless I get about 900k a second but if I plug my laptop directly in to the router I get upto 1800k/sec on my beunlimited broadband. So it will make it worthwhile.
