I had my PS3 replaced twice in the last eight months because it stopped reading discs, and it happened again last week for a third time. Apparently they no longer send replacement units out, instead they repair your current one. It was picked up on schedule, and came back to me about a week later, which was yesterday. I played it last night for about 20 minutes, the screen fronze, it crashed back to its "desktop", and now it won't read discs again!
Am I cursed or are they really that unreliable? Has this problem been properly fized in later models. perhaps I coul insist on Sony giving me a new one?

I think it's a 40 Gig, bought just before christmas last year. I got about four months out of it the first time before it went pop, another two months and it happened again. I left it unrepaired until last week because I was studying for my OU exams and I didn't want any distractions. Finished my exams, got FarCry2 coming today, and it's broken again a day after being repaired! Sony are sending a replacement console out to me on tuesday, I can't really fault their service but it shouldn't be neccessary in the first place!

From what I've read they're very reliable, mine has only crashed twice while I've owned it and that was on the same game (Assassins Creed). Is it getting enough air where you keep it as they do get really hot, overheating might cause parts to warp?
This is a Software issue, not the PS... mine did it as well as a lot of other people (everyone)Don't blame the PS!!
To be honest I refuse to support an item which isn't fit for purpose. Both these machines are excellent but hopelessly unreliable. It really is unacceptable to launch a machine (either) that suffers from overheating, chips coming adrift, psu failures and blu ray failures. Either release a reliable machine or don't bother, we wouldn't put up with cars like this so why electronics goods?
I've had my PS3 for all of 3 days, and I started getting very bad graphics corruption in 720p and below. 1080i/p were fine but unfortunately that's no good for the games I've bought.
Then popped in a regular DVD and it somehow fixed itself and the games are fine again.
Is this a known issue? I Googled and couldn't find any similar problems.
