Right, I only installed rFactor a couple of hours ago but can already see im not going to get on with it very well. Main points are controls, i have an xbox controller wired but i think i will never enjoy it properly until i get a decent wheel which i cannot afford at the moment. The graphics are also a bit poor - I have the edition with the BMW Sauber on the front, will the graphics improve if i download the update?

Anyway, ill keep trying with but wanted to see what you would recomend as a more arcade-y style of driving game for the PC. rFactor has so many addons and downloads that it seems like it will take ages just to get it up and running. I had Project Gotham 2 on the original xbox, so ideally something like that with decent online play - just need to put the disc in and away you go!

cheers

Is Race 07 very similar to rFactor? I saw in another thread it was compared with rFactor as the best sims, and its hard to judge from the videos on youtube.

Any recommendations for a more arcade style game?

Rfactor is definately a sim and it will be hard work with an X-Box controler.

I quite enjoyed the need for speed games and I played those using a keyboard. I also played the Race driver games using keyboard, although they are buggy.. but that might have just been a problem with my laptop controler. You can even manage richard burns rally with a keyboard, its an old game but its awesome fun biggrin

Gont give up on rFactor, its a brilliant game if you have a wheel and pedals although its not the sort of game you can just pick up and be fast.. it takes quite a bit of practice to be quick.

Race 07 uses the same physics engine as rFactor I believe, so will drive very similarly.

Try the latest Need For Speed, or Grid for some arcade driving goodness.

Ill have a look at GRID.

I dont think im looking for the impossible, i got pretty good at PGR2 on the xbox, so using the same controller on a PC game should give equal results, just looking for the closest match to PGR really.

Don't forget that you can always turn on some of the driving aids in rFactor to make up for the fact that you don't have a wheel yet. There are quite a few servers that allow driving aids, such as the very popular Megane mod.

There are others like you using either controllers or the keyboard and some of them still get very good results, even against drivers with G25's.

Good luck

PS If you really want to go with a more arcade type game, have a look at Test Drive Unlimited, the NFS series, Grid and World Racing.
