Everything seems to be Wii this and Xbox that, so are they a duff option?

(Lets forget the Blu-ray plus point for the moment).

I think the PS3 has (or will have) the edge when it comes to online play. Sony released an open beta of PS3 home this week - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_Home . This is a free service, unlike Xbox Live which is subscription based. The Wii's online offering, although free, is a bit limited and game centric.

All people talk about is which one is better. Just enjoy what console you have, they all have their own merits!!

I have all 3 lol, sad i know (well as a house hold)

I think they all have plus points, the PS3 is by far and away the nicest to use and most professional/impressive in use, xbox has a better variety of games at the moment.

As developers learn how to exploit the ps3, i think the xbox will fall behind. all the cheap stuff this xmas is to prolong the 360's life until the new one comes out.

PS3 is the better of the 2 IMO, i have a 360 for Forza and thats it lol

I just bought a PS3 over a 360, To be honest the only thing's that convinced me to do that were Little Big Planet and GT5...whenever that comes out.

Like what?

Most of the stuff Xbox has is the same on PS3, save for a few games like Forza/Gran Turismo.

The Wii is more of a party console, fun with mates and not too serious - its a different type of console.

Just because more PHers own an Xbox doesn't mean that the PS3 is rubbish - there is nothing that makes me want to chop my PS3 in for an Xbox (at least at the moment). I'm sure the Xbox owners would say the same about their console.

They are basically even, each have their own pro's and cons. You pays your money you take your choice.

I can understand this as I've seen lots of TV adverts for multiplatform games which state "available on the XBox360 from £..." at the end of the advert along with a pic of the 360.

There are also the wierd 360 adverts with little cinemas in the back of peoples heads.

While I can't recall seeing anything for the PS3, well maybe something for Little Big Planet... once, and it wasn't very good.

Sony always used to haved great TV adverts, so if you don't own a PS3, or read the mags/ online gaming sites you might not know it's still out there.

I have all 3, the Wii is a bit rubbish quite frankly and it's really only good for my 3 year old who has already finished Mario Kart and likes to play tennis.

PS3 isn't bad, but it's not excelling itself either. Looks the nicest physically. (Home is rubbish, as is any other avatar based crap - I just want to play games)

However I just keep getting drawn back to the 360, best controller, generally the best gameplay & graphics and best for online.

Blimey - Some strong points here. I am NOT against the PS3! I have a PS2 and I love it! Yeah, I know bit dated etc... but never mind.

Just thinking what way to go? Should I naturally progress to the PS3 or (and being honest here) 99% of the people I know who have a games console have either a Wii or Xbox.

I knew for future reasons perhaps I should choose it for Blu-Ray, but that should NOT be a deciding factor, or should it?

Looking at the "Little Big Planet" adverts it has got me tempted.

Fairy nuff, just sounded a bit like the x number of people who have tried to stir it up in the past.

If you had a PS2 and were used to that controller, then I imagine you wouldn't have any trouble with the PS3 version - one of the things Xbox players say is poor on the Playstation.

If you have a HD telly and are going to want to watch films on it often, the Blu-Ray player is very handy - many more films are out on blu-ray than HD-DVD and getting a blu-ray player separately is still very expensive.

If you want to play with your friends a lot, then you would need to get the same console. If you go down the Xbox route, be aware of the reliability issues and cost of Xbox live. I personally wouldn't get a Wii instead of a PS3/Xbox, for me its something I would only have as well as one of the others.

There is a sticky at the top of the forum on which console to buy too.

As has been said most games are available on both the PS3 and the 360, and now games tend to be pretty much the same on both consoles (previously the 360's versions of multiplatform games tended to be the best, some considerably better).

Really the primary factor should be the exclusive games you want to play; GT, Forza, Halo, Killzone, Little Big Planet, Banjo Tooey (or whatever it's called wink), in the end, you buy the console to play the games, you don't play the console.

After that you've got the hardware, as Norbury said, the controller is essentually the same as the PS2 Dual shock, so if you are confortable with that, you'll be even more confortable with the 6-Axis/DS3 as they're wireless. The controller comes in for a lot of stick form the 360 owners, but having had a PS1/ PS2 and now PS3, I much prefer it to the 360 pad.

Then there is the bluray, nice to have, and unlike the PS2's DVD drive the PS3 can play blurays as well as pretty much ANY standalone player.

Online is free, but you can get very cheap year subs for online access (or so I've read) for the 360 so that's not really a factor.

Wifi's built into the PS3 if you're not plannaing on putting it next to your router, wher as it's an extra cost on the (all be it cheaper) 360.

Play TV is supposed to be ok if you want a freeview PVR, and while it might not save you much over an external PVR it does save space.

Finally the thing which I personally found a big factor was the scarey failure rate of the 360. Now while people may say that they now come with a 3 year warranty, what happens after then? I still go back to my 3DO every now and again and my PS2 for games which don't work perfectly on the PS3.

Ultimately though, buy the console which has the games you want to buy, no point if in 3 or 4 years time you have a perfectly working PS3 and all you want to play is the next Halo or other 360 exclusive and vice verca.

If your going to do online gaming it might be best to consider what platforms your mates have, as playing with friends online is the best part of any of the consuls, imo

I have to say having all 3, i am waiting for my xbox to break! i was also really pissed when it cost me £60 to get the thing to connect wirelessly (how many people have theor router in the friggin lounge?!

And then it cost me £30 for Xbox live - dont get me wrong, it is currently the better of the 2 online platforms, but £90 on top of the console just to connect!?

Saying that, the inability to play your mates on GT5p drove me to distraction

Oh yeah, don't slate the PS3 (even though you didn't and actually asked genuine question), the fanboys go wild hehe Take the first reply to your post if you need this backing up at all wink

I think they have some kind of complex ?? Maybe the gaming equiv. of the 911 vs the GTR ??

I know what you mean though, I have only seen ads for LBP and one for the PSP, the PS3 hardware itself doesn't seem to be pushed this Xmas ??
