ps3 update

has any 1 not been able to do the update. I have been having problems all week with my station and now it wont let me do the download. What should i do. Who should i contact if the problems keep getting worse

I did it but it took a few attempts to finish the download. You can usually get it on the PS website, put it on a usb stick in a folder called UPDATE and boot with this in the PS3. Should install from there.

it says an error has occured, could not astablish a conection to the server. i was trying all nite for hours it just would work. do you think giving the ps3 network a call tol see if they could help.

I've had that before, it usually happens when everyone is trying to download at the same time. I'd give it a few more days and try again.

You could try downloading it using a pc, saving to a memory stick and updating from that.

thanks for advice. I will try 2nite and keep my fingers crossed. If it fails will do the update on my pc an save it to memory stick like you said thanks for the help

Thats what annoys me because my friend who lives 4 doors down from me managed to do his update with out any problems. Mine on the other hand was close to be thrown across the room altho i dont think it would of helped lol

Try update very late at night or in the very early hours I did mine this morning at 1 am no problems

I found out why my station will not do the download its all because i need to get the ports on my router opened . i spoke to the ps3 help line who gave me lots of codes an then they said i had to get in touch with my wireless router provider (belkin). so i did and im sure i was put through to a call center in india. any who i gave the lady on the phone all the info i had she then put me on hold for 20 mins then she said my problem is with the ps3 network and i have to speak to them. i made 8 phone calls to belkin and 5 to ps3. to cut a long story short i was being past from pillar to post and my ps3 is still off line. time to go and get my internet geek who will fix it for a price i think

Just for the record I managed to download this at the weekend first time without issue.

Did you actually manage to open your ports? It's very easy to do.

still no luck i did manage to open them. i dnt have a clue how i was put on hold for 20 mins so i assumed the lady would have done that but who knows. i got a guy looking at it 2nite for me

It's simply a case of logging into your router via your web browser and adding the ports to your firewall and linking them to the IP of your PS3.

Hmm, I've never had to open any incoming ports for my PS3, and I'm not sure why you'd have to. I've never had a problem with any updates, or playing any games online. What ports have they told you to open?

You definitely do need to open ports, if you have a UPnP compatible router it's possible that it was done for you automatically.

There's a chance it will work if you don't forward them, there's a chance that it won't. It will usually work better if you do. If you do a network test on the PS3 it will tell you you're NAT Type: 1, 2 or 3. 1 means it has a direct connection to the internet, 2 means it's behind a router and ports are forwarded, 3 means it's behind a router and ports are not forwarded.
