Not having been online for months I logged on with the new wireless set up and had the inevitable massive updates to download.

Then to my surprise there is like a real life sim city... what is this all about. What are you supposed to do?

It's called HOME and it's a bit pap. Think of it like 2nd life, but filled with virtual rapists, spotty hormonal teens and identikit avatars.

Ok. I just logged into it and I was in what looked like a flat with balcony looking out onto a marina - I walked round the room for a minute then turned off the PS3.

I guess there are bars etc on it and "dating"lol.

It's supposed to be a virtual hub where you can have your friends over, let them view content on your PS3 via your in-game TV and launch games once everyone is ready, however at the moment it's totally not ready for any of this.

Going to the Home Square reveals all the other people online at the time and you can interact with them, this is usually where you'll usually get repeatedly bum-raped by pre-pubescant teens, from there you can go to the arcade where you'll be forced to stand in line for 20 minutes until one of the games becomes free and you can actually play.

In theory it should be quite a novel way of doing things, in practice however it needs a lot of work.

The idea is, when you want to play games with your friends, it's like a virtual lobby. They've also tagged on other bits so you can buy furniture etc for your 'flat' etc

To be honest it's quite lame and gimmicky, I spent 5 minutes walking around before switching it off.

I don't think the PS3 will match the 360's online experience until they start throwing in a headset with the machine - I can't believe they still aren't doing this yet.
