I downloaded it at around 11am today.
I've played it for about an hour - not overwhelmed by it but the white and blue colour palette makes a pleasant change to the browns of the main game. On normal difficulty with a level 20 character, the gauss gun gives 95% chance to hit and one shot kills most of the time - no great challenge so far.

Am I missing out on much?
Not unless you're a REAL hardcore F3 fan.I consider myself a fan but feel it falls short of the main game. Granted, I knew when I bought the DLC that it was going to be combat-heavy (which is unavoidable given the subject matter of it) but I can't help but feel that Bethesda have been a bit lazy - the game plays on rails, there's precious little need to use locks or terminals (and the ones I've found so far have all been easy) and it lacks any meaningful RPG element. Combat wasn't the strongest part of F3 (although VATS is quite nifty) so Operation Anchorage was never likely to showcase the best parts of the game.
I think it's a bit expensive at 800 points (£6.80) for around 2.5 hours of gameplay. Especially when you bear in mind they'll want the same again next month for The Pitt and then again in March for the last chunk (and they've rather cynically left it until the last chunk to introduce the XP cap rise to level 30).

The stories in fallout 3 had so many holes though them and contradicted everything in fallout 1 & 2
I did play (and really enjoy) F1 and F2 many moons ago before my PC became obsolescent and I defected to the dark side of consoles but I can't say I remember the plot all that clearly. Nothing jumped out at me as I was playing F3 (although to be fair it was a long time ago since I last played the earlier games) - what holes are you referring to?The fact that its around 70 years after Fallout Tactics and the BoS have no idea what the super mutants are (even though the original brother hood had a war with them). The whole super mutants being made in DC, in Fallout 1 (I think) you distroy the super mutant "dipping" plant on the calafornia coast where the super mutant threat started.
about the story being different.
its not a continuation of the games, its a different game just with the same type of theme(i think didnt play the first 2?)
I think the dlc was worth it as I now have the T-51b power armour at lvl 9
and that it cant be destroyed.
plus the gauss gun is pretty good.

F3 IS a continuation of the story set out in F1 and F2 (although, as I understand it, Fallout: Tactics is not really considered to be "canon" and so there are bits in the backstory to that which don't fit with F3).its not a continuation of the games, its a different game just with the same type of theme(i think didnt play the first 2?)
As far as the super mutants go, isn't it explained in F3 that the Enclave sourced a sample of the FEV that the Master had been using at Mariposa base on the west coast (that the player destroys in F1? It excavated the base and found the FEV vats. A different strain to the Mariposa FEV is used in Vault 87, as a "test" on how it affects normal people, and hence Vault 87 is identified in F3 as being the source of the East Coast mutants (which are a bit different to West Coast mutants).
I've skimmed through the guide at fallout.wikia.com and I'm sure the detailed backstory is set out there. Admittedly, I'm not sure why the Capital Wasteland BoS isn't aware of Mariposa etc but I'm sure it's covered in the articles in the wiki.
Off at a tangent, but it was slightly odd watching Obama's inauguration last week and seeing the modern-day National Mall in Washington, with the Jefferson Memorial, Washington Monument etc - it looks a bit different to how I'd become used to seeing it in the game
