Is it just me who prefers aiming with a mouse to a joystick?

I used to play loads of shoot 'em up games such as Medal of Honour on my PC and was damn good at them. When playing online, I found the mouse an excellent way of aiming and considered myself a good shot.

Now I've moved onto the Xbox, playing games such as Halo and Call of Duty is a nightmare. My aiming is dreadful because if I move my right thumb just a little, I completely miss my target. Playing online is quite frankly an embarrassment and I feel like a total newbie.

Any advice from the seasoned players? I've tried adjusting sensitivity of the controller but it doesn't really help.

Cheers,

Ed

Practice makes perfect.

I'd take a mouse and keyboard over a joypad any day of the week for an FPS, but as my 360 or PS3 is that much more convenient to play (and I've got more friends who game on them) I simply make the best of what I've got. It took a while to get used to it and I even tried a mouse adaptor thing for Halo 2, but it was rubbish and I was much better with the pad by that stage.

It's not like you'll be facing people using a mouse + keyboard combo, everyone you play is using a pad too, so it's a level playing field in that respect.

I was good with a mouse, started playing the xbox more and more and got better at aiming with the pad (not brilliant) and when I went back to the PC I found out I'd become rubbish at that too.

Hehe - maybe I'm just getting old and would be crap on the mouse too. And yes, that's true in that everyone is using the same controller. However, it's the precision that I really miss - the only way I can get anywhere with Call of Duty now is if I get a machine gun and spray everyone in sight. It feels very amateur.

But perhaps I just need to keep at it. shoot

All the times I've ever played an XBOX or whatever, I have barely been able to walk in a straight line and aim at someone, whereas I'm not a bad shot at Counter Strike Source on PC. I suppose you could get used to it over time, but you can't get the perfect precision

One thing you could never play on console is World of Warcraft or something like that.

FPS games are far better on pc.

The best pc player vs the best console player in cod4 or cs:s would be a pc whitewash.

I used to play absolutely tons of Counter Strike 1.6 when I was at uni. Then during my last year I got a 360 and never looked back.

It takes a lot of money and effort to get a good gaming PC setup these days, and PC hardware is always evolving as is the software.

I've adapted to the Xbox controller and I'm pretty st hot at certain games.

But yes, I would prefer a mouse and keyboard. WASD FTW! laugh

cant play console FPS's for st. Has to be a mouse for me far more accuate than a joypad. I do chuckle when MS keep saying they will make FPS games that with both Xbox and PC on the same servers. They must realise that the PC players will have better control and faster frame rates.

Definitely a mouse/keyboarder myself, probably down to practise but it seems ironically analogue whereas the pad just doesn't to it. You pay for the luxury though, no doubt about that.

Go and google Shadowrun wink

They had it up 2 years ago, frame rates were the same and the PC controls were compensated for by slowing the camera movement down in order to prevent the twitch-gamers from running away with everything.

I looked at it but then didnt see the point of paying to play a game with console players when I could play any other FPS online for free...
