I downloaded the demo and it seems pretty good. I never really got into any flight sims on the 360, how does Hawx compare with the Ace Combat series?

(I liked Heroes of the Pacific on the Xbox, wish they'd bring something similar out for 360 - the ww2 dogfighting game that came out years ago is a load of balls).

I've got Ace Combat 6 for the sheer stupidity of it (several hundred missiles per plane). It's a laugh as an arcade shoot 'em up.

Hawx feels pretty similar to be honest, except I hated the "assist off" mode. I want to see where I'm flying, not some stupid bloody arty camera angle.

My thoughts exactly.

Nice graphics though. Gets a bit dodgy when you're flying low over cities though, just a texture map.

Is the demo worth the download?

I would say no, but that's my opinion.

The initial hype about this game has been seriously overdone. Like the comments above, the graphics are nice until you fly low. The assist mode is quite frankly, stupid. The other pilots and people on your comms are annoying and the missions seem to me like they could get very repetetive.

But, as above, that's my opinion smile

Got fed up trying to shoot the drones down and deleted it, I guess it might have been easier if I was in the cock pit, what a ridiculous addition.

Downloaded the demo, played it for for 5 mins then it crashed, then deleted it. The stupid assist off camera angle is so unhelpful it actually makes it harder to fly. Also what's with the graphics for the missiles? I expect to see the missile I fire not just a flare. I was expecting more from a Tom Clancy game. frown

I had Ace Combat 6 and HAWX seems virtually identical. Nothing about the demo suggested it offered anything more than Ace Combat. it does have harriers but as far as i can tell you cant hover! Deleted the demo, pretty unimpressed!

Just got this through Lovefilm, it's alright as a rental I suppose.

One stupidly annoying thing is that it's totally buggered up my Xbox dashboard. I've now got some Wii like poncy avatar mincing around when I boot up. How do I get back to the grown up settings?

Ya that annoyed me with the dashboard too, forcing me to install it!!!

It's exactly like Ace combat, but for #20 from blockbuster it's a bit of alright.

One annoying thing is you can't take off / land, and assistant mode off is usefull when you get used to it, you can always see where the target is in relation to the plane so is easy to fly, also alows you to get out of the way of missiles etc quicker!

Overall it's a good game, but only if you liked the Ace combat, nothing more to add to the mix

The best flight sim on the 360 is Over-G Fighters IMHO. You only have the weapons that the plane can have in real life not 72 or whatever it is Ace Combat has, you can also mix and match your bombs, rockets, missles, fuel tanks etc. You can take off and land on carriers. You can use chaff and flares. Also it's the first non-pc game that I've played that you can hover, this can only be done in the F-35 JSF. It's pretty damn cheap these days as well.

I played this on the PC, and it was fun for 5 mins. Its not a flight sim though - its a very basic, repetitive arcade game.
