Gt5 Drift Chamionship?

I was a bit late on realising there was a GT5 time trial series, which meant there wasn't much point me taking part, but, would a drift championship be a good idea?

• I don't take credit for this idea, all credit goes to the Phers who started the time trial champinship.

I have never tried drifting on GT5, just not really my thing but others may be intereseted.

You're very welcome to join in the time trial championship. Just put in a time on the current combo and post it up.

Drifting is fun and very rewarding once you get the hang of it
With a few laps practice you can be getting top 10 scores quite easily, rather than spending ages perfecting a timed lap.
However, I may just join in, all-be-it late. I don't think i'll be setting challenging times though

Any more takers for a drifting series?

Can't say I'd be around all the time but I'm up for giving it a go. Would we just work on a combo then change it every so often?

I'd say we choose a car and track and then have a certain amount of time to do it, like the time trial.

But I'm not sure about what tinkering can be done, as I find tyre set ups make a big difference to drifitng in standard physics mode.
Or would professional physics be more appropriate?

All I know with regard to setup is don't use a ZO6 with R1 fronts and S1 rears

I'd have a bash, haven't got the time or the skill to be competitive on the time trials.

Do it one week at a time to start with, post up our best scores and then when we get more folk in we can start a table.

I'd like to get a drift championship going, usually when mates call round we end up drifting instead of racing so I've a bit of practice recently.

I'll get some time later to propose a championship table with cars and tracks. Probably best if we mirror the TT format. Different car and track combo every week running from Sat to Friday, professional only and free choice of tyres as everyone has their preferences.

Could someone explain what the objective is? (i.e. how do you score points...is it purely aesthetics, or does lap time come into it too?)

Also, what basic set-up do you need to do to get the car driftable?

Each track is split into a few sections - some only have 2 sections, some 5 - and the scoring seems to work on both speed and angle of the car, as well as the length of time the slide is held. If your car goes somewhere between 90 & 180 degrees to the direction of travel, you lose your score for that section, but can make up some points on the remainder. (That makes no sense written down ) Also the lap time is completely irrelevant.

To get the car driftable, ideally I use very grippy front tyres (R3) and slippy rears (N1) on the RWDs, though I use S1/2 front and rear on the 4WD and get great 4 wheel drifts. I find the best cars for this are the big engined RWDs, especially the Dodge SRT10 and Ferrari 599

Just remembered, turn the traction control off too

Though while you are getting used to the more powerful cars you can keep the TC to 1 or maybe 2 and it will still allow smaller slides.

Sounds good to me, although perhaps should we allow a practice week or use a less powerful/4WD car at first, as they are more managable for the newbs to drifting

How does that suit for an opening suggestion. Gives people time to practice a bit before starting tomorrow night. The Ferrari is a very easy car to start off in, very neutral and balanced.

As for settings, it's driver preference, I've tried many setting posted on GTP and it really is down to your own style etc..

I always drift on N1 tyres, sometimes N2/N1 but never mix front a and rear with sports or racing.
