Richard Burns Rally Problem

Just bought the brilliant Richard Burns Rally but I cant hear the co-driver barking out the pace notes. Ive played with various settings in the options menu and frustratingly I still cant get anything. The version ive got is the PC Gamer Presents and im playing it on Windows Vista.

Any help is much appreciated
