Strange background noises PSN

Wondering if anyone can shed some light on this mystery.

When I play on PSN I can hear the others players speak in the background. It's a muffled sound but I can make out a few words.

I guess players have headsets/mics and this is simply the background noise coming through?

It's amusing and disturbing at the same time

get a headset / mic and all will become clear I suspect

Whilst the smack talking / screaming 13 year old american kids can get annoying, it's otherwise ace

Is it not really odd talking to randoms? I know we do it on forums but actually hearing them talk must be odd!

Can be quite a laugh sometimes. I usually only use my mic when i'm playing with friends/fellow PHers.
