I was being accused of being a cheat and a mod by a number of people last night whilst playing some COD5. I just happened to be on a bit of a roll and was winning most games by a fair margin leaving a few people disgruntled.
I was told i was using a modified controller and that i was going to be banned from Xbox (real scary). My question though, is there such a thing as a modified controller that you can buy and if so - whats so special about it?
I tried telling them I wasnt cheating, just better than they were but that just seemed to antagonise them more

Yes, modified controllers exist.
You can get them off eBay from about £25 upwards for different mods. Things you are likely to see are tweaks to make single fire weapons seem automatic for example.
I can't see it being a massive advantage as some skill is still required to get your aim right.
I hate cheats though. Glad it isn't as bad as it used to be. See 'standby-ing', especially on Halo 2.

I totally agree Matt. I just have a normal controller but find i can fire a single shot almost as quickly as an automatic..Im not sure why everyone has difficulty doing so, you just dont need to fully depress the trigger each time, really speeds up firing - but if you cant aim ,it doesnt matter how quickly you fire. You just hit nothing quicker There's a lad on here, young fella maybe 10-12 years old who plays with a modded controller.

although with limited shots. He does quite well but noticeable that he plays with some very good players* that help to flush out the other team. His gamertag is "Randythong" or somesuch. He often has a dodgy red connection, so probably runs some sort of illegal "lag switch" too I'd imagine, + one of those "aimbots" from ebay alsmost definitely.

Well i seen a guy (noob) on cod 4 the over day and i can tell you he was cheating big time.
He had aimbot and a modded controller, but luckily he was such a noob that he used a shogun on search so half the shooting didnt really matter,
I dont get how aimbot works though,

Wasn't talking about those mouse adapters were they?Either way, at least any cheating etc is rare on consoles.PC gaming was killed and still is being killed by online cheating scum.

I think that console modding has delined big time from the original xbox days. On Halo 2 you would see different vehicles on different maps, maps being different colours, one of the flying vehicles which allowed you to fly out of the map into white space.
I think Microsoft's opinion in the end was, do it if you want, we don't care, but if you play a matchmade game, thus affecting people who don't want to be involved, you will be punished or banned.
