Best COD4 sniper?

Hello, just a quick question, whats the best Sniper on cod4?
Gonna start practising sniping and wondered whats the best one?

My preference is for the R700.

Just try them all and see what suits you. I would have thought the .50 Cal was the best as it is last to unlock, but a quick Google shows the R700 and M40 are also good choices

Easily the M21.. Such an easy sniper to use, 1 shot kill too.. Well on H/C anyway!

M40 for me, on HC with the normal scope, if non-HC then the ACOG.

I'm glad alot of people done that, its got rid of some of the riff raff from COD4 which I still play daily

Only sniper I use is the M21; no recoil and semi auto without bolt action means I can fire off 6/7 rounds on target in the same time as one on the R700 for example.

If you don't have/want Overkill so can't carry an assault as your main weapon, a sniper is pretty useless unless you can be sure of a quick kill; if you run into an enemy carrying the R700 and miss, you'll be dead before you reload.

I always play with the M40, with the normal scope, as I tent to sit a fair way back from the action, and snipe from a distance. When I first started out sniping, I used the M21 all the time, as I liked the idea of being able to put several bullets in the target, but as my skills increased, I moved to the bolt action rifles for there increased power (1 shot, 1 kill (around 75% of the time) ). For me the R700 is about worst performing gun, as it shares the slower reload of the M40, but with a smaller clip. I can see no logical reason to use the R700 over the M40.

The semi's are a different ball game, as they all have there own advantages. (power vs recoil)

Also, it is worth while practicing with the pistols as they can be very effective in close quarters combat, as you'll be surprised how quickly you can kill someone with the pistol. I always use the silenced USP as it sits right in the middle of power vs. clip size, with minimal recoil.

Also has anyone changed the button for hold breath, to me having it on the stick is stupid..

I think its the M40, as you get that weapon in the default sniper class.

I don't tend to use Iron Lungs, so haven't changed the button layout. I tend to use Steady Aim, as it makes the crosshairs smaller before you zoom in, and can assist when you get surprised by an enemy, and quickly turn and fire.

I've almost completed all of my sniper challeneges just have the Barret and the R400 to get from Blue tiger to Red tiger, rest are already on Blue.

My preference is still for the M40a3. I like the barrat just cos it blows big holes in things and people but the recoil is terrible, as it is on the r400.

M21 is not for real snipers!

Must say I am rather partial to a bit of sniper action adored the M21 until I unlocked the Barrett and now I rarely use anything else, for anything.

Just wondering though, what’s everybody’s accuracy rating, before I unlocked the Barrett I tended to use the P90, but since I started sniping my accuracy’s now at 22.7something%, just wondering how that compares?

i use the barret .50 cal , but im always well hidden and have been called a camper by loads of peeps , but i think u have to camp and hide to be sniper ive been playing cod5 now but then fifa 09 took over online on my ps3 think im gonna go back to cod4 on pc soon!
