55 quid for Premium Games

Anyone else think that asking 55 quid for for "premium game" is OTT

The new Call of Duty, most antciipated game of the year, is reported to be selling for a tenner more, as Activision think that they can get away with it.

I was pretty peeved when I had to stump up similiar amount for Guitar Hero, but at least I got a plastic guitar for the extra.... I will get nothing for this

Activision say it is the weak pound and higher production costs.

So, who next? Forza 3 for 55?

I will be voting with my feet, and will wait for the price to come down....

Like DVDs, I never pay full price for games, I'm always happy to wait a month or 2 before they get discounted, or buy them online if I can't wait (usually save £5-10 on new games).

Sometimes you do have to wait though, COD4 hasn't really been discounted at all in 2 years or so.

Bit cheeky.

Even places like Play.com are selling them at £44.99 Link when previously the RRP would be £45 and they'd sell for £39.99 or less, to be able to show off their discount.

But then when you work out the cost-per-hour on something like COD4, its still cheap entertainment.

£55 is a joke, although this is nothing new, I still have Sonic 3 for the MD originally purchased in about 1993, the Dixons reciept for £49.99 in is still in the box!!

I seem to remember some N64 games cost near £60.

Good job it was a great game!

I'll wait till the release day and buy it from Asda at midnight, they usually have it a few quid cheaper. (COD:WaW was £27)

I buy all my games second hand and never pay over £20.
You might have to wait a month or two before you get the game you want but im not worried about playing the latest thing.

I agree, they are getting more and more expensive, and i agree with the general consensus. I've never been one of these people who has to get games on the day of release.

I find this stupid, particularly if it is a Live based game and very highly anticipated. All that happens is you end up playing a brand new game on laggy servers having to cope with massive demand, while a tyrade of ignorant yanks scream at your lousy gamerscore because they've already had the game for a week prior and have completed it 120 times.

The only time i think it's worthwhile is for games you really get the use from. COD4 is the only game i have played continuously for 2 years and IMO was well worth the £44.99 from play.com.

I paid £60 for Guitar Hero yesterday (vouchers) but that is as high as I would ever go. You do get the guitar for that though.

£55 for Modern Warfare 2, which is going to offer 10~ hours single player game play, is a fking joke. The online mode better bloody well make up for it, which I am sure it will.

What about the special editions? £70 for the hardened edition of MW2 and £120 for the extreme one (forgotten its name). I haven't decided which one i'm getting yet.

Interestingly Steam dropped the prices of all their download games a month or so ago and reported that they'd made record profits. So much so that they stated that they would do a similar event again in the future.

I bought the XBox360 version of COD4 (GOTY Edition) new from GAME last year for £25 - one of their Bank Holiday offers!

I can usually wait for a couple of months for games to come down in price, and later releases sometimes bundle in extras that launch customers had to pay for - COD4 map pack, for example. I've not really got a choice in waiting for the Autumn/Winter releases though, as I'll be mostly at sea until the New Year, with not an XBox in sight .
