Lotus 79 on iRacing

Who else has been racing this? Just got it the other day, and I think at the minute this is as good as it gets, iRacing finally became GPL 2! Now I can't wait until they add Long Beach, Oulton Park and Zandvoort!

Yep, its pretty cool - the faster you go, the faster you can go!

Im torn between the DP and the Lotus this season though, as i was fortunate enough to get into the pro license, so im tempted to just work on that car and its setups.

Silverstone historic is a blast, bridge is tighter than it looks!

The outside replay sound still needs work, but the incar is pretty accurate. Check out this thread and the accompanying mp3 over at Race Sim Central. I think you need to register at RSC in order to hear the mp3, but im not sure.

The mp3 was posted by the sound recordist over at the official iracing forum. Starts off with the recording from inside the cockpit of a Lotus 79 (the lotus that they had access to), and then the actual sound engine from the sim controlled by a slider (as opposed to the throttle pedal).

Yup I'm with the '79 and loving it- great fun to drive and very forgiving (relatively speaking)

This will be my main car for this season, aside from jaunts in the Jetta TDI when it's launched and the odd excursion with radicals.

Cant wait for that, it might be low on hp, but its pretty torquay ( :P ). Great to have a front wheel drive car in the service, and with Brands and Oulton Park on their way ill get to play btcc lite.

How are people finding this? I'm a bit frustrated by it but it's probably more due to my lack of talent than anything.

I don't have that many tracks so I've not yet raced it but I can lap Silverstone Historic in the low 1min 29's / high 28's quite consistently after about 100 practice laps. Unfortunately I've just seen someone has done a 1.26.7 and there's no way I'm going to be able to find another 2 secs.

Would love to see what a current F1 driver could get out of it to set a proper benchmark!

The key to it is braking a little before you think you should, then gently rolling off the brake and onto the gas at the turn in point - you dont want oversteer on entry as it takes a while to sort it out through the apex - so brake in a straight line, off the brake and back on the gas gently, and then squeeze it back on from the apex out.

I see lots of people throwing it into bends because its easy to save by just mashing the gas, but they are sliding too much at the exit, and its killing them down the straights. Smooth is definitely the key to this one.

The racing at Road America is great! John Prather, the guy theyve put in a real car this weekend there, is going to have a blast!
