Ok quick question. I always feel like a bit of a cop out using auto transmission. Who uses manual and who doesn't?

Auto every time, I just can't be arsed trying to get to grips with changing gears on games, I tried it on FM2 and it didn't click.

There is nothing wrong with using Auto, if thats what you're comfortable with then use it smile

However, if you really want to get faster and have a more rewarding game, then you need to go Manual. yes, the first few weeks you'll be crap....shifting too early........learning what gear is best for each corner.......selecting reverse off the start line (you know who you are!!)

But the amount of time you'll knock off your laps when you can use the gears as well as the brake to slow down and chnaging up at the max point will eventually turn you into a better racer.

But thats just my opinion smile

Manual on something with set-tracks that you can memorise, like Forza. Auto on the likes of the Project Gotham games where you have so many permutations of tracks that you're too busy concentrating on working out which way the track goes to worry about being in the correct gear.

I use auto in NFS shift because they've put the manual controls on those stupid bumper buttons that I can't reach comfortable for a full race.

no doubt some smart arse will tell me its my fault for using my index fingers on the triggers in every other game.

Manual for me. I just prefer the control it offers.

Manual, always.

I hate auto on games, or worse auto with manual input, like it'll change down if you want it to but then it'll change up again because you're not braking that that exact second!! Grr

I dont see what is so difficult with using manual gears on computer games, redline, change gear, redline, change gear! Then when braking just downshift, you'll have an idea what gear you should be in for a corner from using auto. Plus you can brake later downshifting yourself because of engine braking!

Manual, definately!

I was looking at the fastest times on tracks on FM2 and most didn't have Stability Control and traction etc on?

Manual for me, as said above i find the reduced stopping distances using engine braking gives in FM2 well worth the effort.

Nope, I turn all the aids off straight away. You'll go even faster still if you can manage with the clutch. Seems they've built-in methods to reward you for this, so by learning to shift with the clutch your times will improve further.

Manual now although the transition caused a few interesting 'reverse moments'. Still dread hitting a wall as can never find reverse quickly frown

I always use manual (with clutch if game permits) and it does save quite a bit of time.

Manual for me as well - can't enjoy the game unless I have total control.

I used to be a loyal Auto person - Moved over to manual a few years ago and I became utter crap. now i don't think I could go back to auto. Manual offers a whole new dimension of control.

Until recently I've always used auto gearbox, and 'chase' view looking at the back of the car. After getting a Logitech G25 I've tried to get into manual gears and the in car view with GT5P and NFS Shift, and with the FM3 demo I've been doing manual gears with the controller pad (damn you MS/Logitech for not making the G25 Xbox 360 compatible :shakes fist: ). Still not got as far as the clutch yet though :s .

Got fed up of being stuck "out of the power" on long corners/exits on GT4 so I switched to manual...

I always used auto but got a MS wheel last week and now manual all the way...so simple with paddle shifters.

but...how about view? what do the fast people use? i use chase so i can see if the cars sliding - i find it hard to tell from inside the car with no sense of sideways drift.
