Is STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl any good?
People always list their top ten on the Internet and good, lesser known games are forgotten, really enjoying Sniper Elite but it is never mentioned in anyone's top ten.
STALKER is a good game takes a while to get into but has loads of game time (cant be said for a lot of the new FPS)Anymore, anyone?

People always list their top ten on the Internet and good, lesser known games are forgotten, really enjoying Sniper Elite but it is never mentioned in anyone's top ten.
Bioshock has an interesting game lineage, all of which are worth a look. Notably, they are all the product (in one way or another) of Warren Spector.
Deus Ex is probably it's direct ancestor.
Thief I+II+III are much more fantasy stealth based. Very creepy though, and hugely atmospheric.
System Shock I+II are SciFi based. Again, very involving.

Not really, it's a year old after all.As above Thief 2 especially but all the thief games are amazing, there is/was a demos.
I have been playing left for dead lately, it's really good. Nice just to blast a load of zombies, makes a change from playing slow and tactically challenging games (like COD).
Hacker rather than shooter, but Dark Messiah is rather fun for chopping bits off people.
Would second Crysis and Bioshock - even for "older" games they are still demanding on hardware, though Crysis: Warhead is rather better coded so easier to run. Trouble is Warhead probably won't make much sense if you haven't played the first...
Far Cry 2 is worth a punt.
F.E.A.R.2, much better than the original, again a tad demanding of hardware (all modern FPS's seem to be!) but good fun.

Lots to think about, thanks guys. I think I'll print this page off for when I'm stuck for a new game.
I actually didn't mind Far Cry 2, nice to look at and lots of shooting, I loved parking up before a road block, blasting s
t out of it with grenade launcher, driving through at full speed, pulling up after a couple of hundred yards and taking out any followers, repetitive but satisfying.
But I also like a bit of a tactical game as well.
Oh and versas, if you like a zombie killfest you should check out Painkiller.
