Which football manager game?

I've got a craving for some armchair football management. Not bought one in years. There looks like two choices. Championship Manager which I used to play and enjoyed. Or Football Manager.

Which is best then?

Football manager by a long shot!

The FM series are made by Sports Interactive who made the Champ Manager series of old (CM 99/00 nad CM01/02 being the best!). When Sports Interactive split from Eidos, Eidos kept the name and contiued with Champ Manager releases but they never seem up for it!

The Community for the FM series again is better and you can get picture/player/compition updates and help with tactics/training through the forums........

Football manager, though my favourite is FM 2008

I bought Championship manager 2010 and it is awful, it is buggy and badly coded. Waiting to see FM 2010.

i've played the cm and its got music - music in a management. wtf.

the in game engine was alot smoother than football managers by far but the whole statistics etc werent good

There is only one worth buying and that is Football Manager. Forget everything else nothing comes close to trumping this.

Got a download of CM 2010, it is truly aweful. Haven't got to Ocotober yet with a game because the dam thing keeps crashing and then corrupting the saved games!!

The demo for football manager 2010 is out now, it's got a playable 1/2 season and you can play in various leagues. The major plus is your saved game is compatible with the proper version !

The demo is only a 'quick start' version though, so you'll be limited to the amount of players and leagues you have if you decided to transfer it over.

Best viewing the demo as a way of familiarising yourself with the new features, certainly the new tactics creator, then start a nice new game when the full version is released and get stuck in.

Incidentally, you can pre-order the game from Zavvi.co.uk for only £24 + Free delivery....bargain!

What are peoples thoughts on the FM10 Demo?

I started a few games last night and have to say that I am loving the new GUI. Seems that things are a lot more intuitive to find. The Tactics creator seems ok and I guess it allows me to set it up and leave it (tend not to change it much as I dont get that into it). The thing I always look for is which teams have the cash, which players are transfer listed and what kind of bargain buys can be had.

If I could get Direct X to actually download and install on my laptop, I'd tell you what I think. I've never had to work so hard to get a demo to play on a machine before, it's being a fking nightmare!

Played the CM series until '00 I think, then picked up FM a while later. Now have racked up 3 days on my latest save game on FM09 and quite attached... are 09 savegames compatible with 10? Or does the new tweaks render this impossible?

Football Manager.

Don't be fooled by the Championship Manager name, the name was sold sometime around 2005 (I think) but the expertise couldn't be bought and went on to make Football Manager.

Unfortunately backwards compatability is a no-no on FM. The amount of tweaks each year make it impossible.

I'm at the same dilemma, picked up a decent save on 09 and dont want to put it down now. What with uni work and the like, although i have 10 pre-ordered, i may wait for a the 2nd patch to be released untill i install and play 10.

Although 10 is arguably the most playable 'out of the box' version of FM in years, the 1st patch is being released shortly after the game release date...we have none other than the 'legendary' Stephen Carr to thank for that one!

I thought as much, but was hoping they'd found a work-around. Nevermind, I will also keep 09 for a little while longer.

Been playing the demo and enjoying having digs at Alex Feguson. Noticed a few bugs but nothing too bad. Think I'm going to order it.

I liked the navigation and gui of the demo and was always going to get the new version. Bought it at the end of last week, but havent had time to get into a game yet.

Will be putting in some time over the next week though and sure that once I get into it I will start to unearth those bargain signings and things will be great.

Only gripe so far is the needy backroom staff with all their suggestions and desire to have update meetings every week. Pah! who needs 'em!?

Recently went for Football Manager and it's great. I have had it for a week and completed two seasons already!

Now I need to figure out how im going to become a real football manager
