Forza 2.5 - not 3 (imho) - disappointed
Discussion
Just some thoughts on this game, not facts for arguments
...just not what I was expecting.
FM3 feels and looks little more than some added content, slight update graphically and a bit more on the sound.
Feels like FM2.5
I know they have put a lot of work into this, as I've followed their website and forums for the last year, really just feels like it's been released a month or two early.
For me personally my favourite racing game prior to Shift/FM3 had been released was PGR4.
Stunning graphics, lovely sounds, good fun tracks and playability.
Ok the single player was a bit tedious but most racing games are until you start playing against buddies.
Anyway, onto FM3.
Feels pretty nice to control, lots of interesting tracks\roads to drive on and HEAPS of cars.
BUT
The graphics look and feel like Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, in that they are very, very clean and clinical.
There isn't any sense of speed with motion blur, judders or anything that makes it exciting to play.
It feels very unfinished graphically, like they are 70% there, and then just had to release it, there's no sparkle to it, and seems like some animations have been left out (petty, yes, but it's 2009, we expect more).
There isn't any build up of grime\bug splats\ and it's the same old weather, nice and sunny (it's fun for a bit of rain\snow)
Hoping from FM3 to Shift (2 consoles here, so no waiting time), instantly the graphics\sounds are superior, the controls on Shift feel hyper alert but as speed increases, the aero down-force builds up and everything becomes stable.
There is a fantastic sense of speed and excitement, and so far, single player is great for just picking up and playing for as long or short a time as you want.
There are a lot less cars to choose from but I'd rather have 70ish well crafted cars to play with rather than 400ish so-so ones.
So for me, Shift is far superior and enjoyable to play (which was a SHOCKER), and FM3 will just get played here and there.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Are you crazy man?
The sense of speed in Forza is spot on. In my opinion the motion blur in Shift is silly, when you drive quick your dash doesn't blur.
As has been said before, trying to start a discussion about which game is better is like trying to discuss which fruit is nicer. In the end it's all about personal preference (which means the argument never works) and you obviously prefer s
t, sorry Shift
.
I personally think Forza 3 is supreme and pisses all over Shift. However, these games seem to be designed for different audiences so maybe the differences are notable for a reason.
Forza 3 ftw!

Replace FM3 with Modern Warfare 2 and your statement still stands. Doesn't mean it isn't fantastic though.

I'm still waiting for my FM3, and even if it does feel like FM2.5, it will piss on NFS s
t. That game is awful. There's no car feel. Every car feels the same. Every corner induces slide. At the back. Whatever the speed. And AI opponents seem to be able to achieve the impossible. Eg, you might be leading with 2 secs, enter a corner braking as late as absolutley possible, but then all of a sudden early to mid corner you're overtaken ?! I've just this second walked away from NFSS, after giving it a 3rd chance, and just before that refreshing my memories of FM2. Far, far superior game - even the 2nd version. All IMHO of course.

Even if you do want to use the now trendy way of calling it Forza 2.5, that is because Forza 2 was a world leading amazing game that created a community of racers/painters/tuners which has not even been approached by any other console game.
I think they have done just enough to improve on a great game.
It seems to me the people who spend all their time picking holes in the game on forums tend to be people that never enjoyed the previous one that much and funnily enough most of them claim also PGR4 or some version of NFS as the best ever cos of the cool l33t effects on the screen.
Dont like it, dont play it, I'm sure Turn 10 won't suffer.

I started this thread because it's from a different perspective, ie: not asskissing the game.
It's a forum, it's meant to have threads
As I stated, right at the top, it's NOT a VERSUS thread because it's just an opinion.
There will always be a buzz about a highly anticipated release, and I didn't say it's crap, it just didn't go as far as I expected.
FM2 = 7/10
PGR4 = 9/10
FM3 = 8/10
NFS.S = 9.5/10
I play PC sims as well, and using the G25 with them really brings them to life, unfortunately with the 360 I'm stuck with the pad as there isn't a decent surface to chuck the wheel onto it.
So that will make a difference to gameplay on each of them.
There IS a G25 type of wheel: 349.95EUR + Tax + Shipping
http://www.fanatec.de/webshop/new_eu/product_info....
In regards to Shift:
Just like the Forza games, you can bloody set the car up if you think it's handling badly
I for one, think it handles well and didn't ever think much of Forza's handling anyway (note - stuck with pad).
It's such a massive leap away from recent NFS releases, I'm really chuffed with it.
They really made use of the racing drivers (Andrea Bertolini, Vaughn Gittin Jr, Tommy Milner, Chris Rado) input, with development, not just playing the game.
I like the graphical touches of Shift (blur dash is a great way to make you focus on the road ahead), makes FM3 very dull, like I'm playing an old arcade game.
It's nice to have games where you don't have to commit 5000000 hours of playing time to enjoy it.

Thinking of buying an xbox purely for Forza 3.
The elite is 189.99 now. But that's still 250+ just for one game. lol.
I don't even use my PS3 to game any more (PC gamer here)..
Both gamestation and game, will have the xbox 360 elite + forza 3 + fifa 10 (you can swap fifa 10 for another from a list of about 8 but fifa is the newest) for £199.99 tomorrow.The elite is 189.99 now. But that's still 250+ just for one game. lol.

Oooh Rob, I would go find a pic of a handbag but cant be bothered.
You say it is not a VERSUS thread, yet you proceed to give it a score against PGR and NFS. Then say how you prefer a blurry dash and hate Forza's ancient arcade style handling. Why start a thread if you dont want someone to comment on your views.
As you were.
