So,the aim of this thread:

It's proving to be quite difficult to find "Drifting" races of Forza3 at the moment and many "Racers" don't appreciate a bit of sideways action...

So here's a thread to make things a bit more accessible..

If you enjoy Touge or just like messing around with some gymkhana, put your name down and maybe we can get some nights on the Airfield/Kaido... It doesn't have to be all you do, but at least it should highlight who wants to leave this part of the game alone and avoid lobby hopping and mis-inviting...

How to earn drift points

Drift points can only be earned on certain corners. As a general rule any tight corner. Long "Kinks" in the road dont seem to comply.

By the looks of it you have to have a 15-20 degree angle.

Stopping/Crashing/Spining (beyond 90 degrees) voids your chain.

You cannot back track and "redo" corners. You have to carry forward momentum for a drift to register and once you've completed a corner you get "locked out" of repeating it until the next lap.

In FM3 you do not have to be spinning your tires to earn drift point. Simply having the back end out of line enough is sufficient.

Often the scoring section of a corner starts a long way before the apex meaning that entering corners with a drift already initiated will incur maximum points.

Discuss all things sideways! Tunes/Setups/Cars/Tracks/Scores/Achievements

Please don't copy the table... I'll add you in to this original post.

Definitely. I'd love to join in on this. It'd give me an ideal opportunity to try my Ken Block Impreza on Benchmark Layout A.

A couple of questions from me to get things going:

Has anyone found that with the upgraded tire physics there's any difference in style when driving a heavier car as opposed to a lightweight one?

Many people used the RX7 in FM2 because it was so lightweight... But in Forza3 is weight really that important? Most cars feel fairly planted as it is.

Secondly, How does that scoring system work? Does the game reward speed or angle exponentially? I've been trying to find some answers by a simple google search but nothing much comes up. Have Turn10 said anything about this?

I haven't seen anything from Turn10. And I've yet to do a drift race in the Season Play, so I have no idea. From my experience of racing online and in single player though, there does seem to be much better differences in the movement of different cars, especially weight-dependant.

If I had to guess, i'd say that the scoring system will probably be based on speed, angle and length of drift (i.e how long you hold the drift through the corner). This being said, i've somehow managed to complete the Drifter achievement, so I must have been getting a little tail-happy in some of my races...

hehe, I bought a Scooby and Boosted it to A-Class... I was rather shocked at how tricky 4WD drifting has become. They feel much more weighty now than they did of FM2... and at mid-A-Class my Scooby just did not want to pull itself out of a corner when I entered it boot first...

What Class is your Scooby? I guess it's the Hatchback type one?

This is very true! They do feel a hell of a lot more weighty in FM3. I've got my Ken Block 09 Impreza up to S class at the moment, and for this exact reason. My logic thought that if I give it as much power as possible, then 4wd drifting should become slightly easier, and then I just have to compensate in direction for the increase in power.

This has worked in some cases, and I had a quick play around on the Benchmark airfield circuit the other night, and managed some nice drifts, but in all honesty, a lot were just the cars momentum carrying it into the corner, rather than my steering input. Methinks I need to adjust the tuning settings quite a bit. If all else fails, it'll probably get a drivetrain upgrade!

All this just to pull off a few moves that are similar to the Gymkhana master... how very sad of me!

I'd be up for a bit of this, been trying out my pimped Range Rover on the airfield, it's just wrong watching 2 tons of metal sliding through those hangers! I'm hoping to get some online action in soon, my broadband router seems to be more reliable now.

I don't think that speed or angle of attack are measured it seems pretty basic. Also I haven't seen any drift modes in single player. Drift mode almost seems almost like a multiplayer afterthought.

I'm sure that many of the Hardcore Racers appreciate that though and I don't see it as a big drawback for people who enjoy pushing their slip angles. It's better to tandem against a friend...

As for the lack of speed or angle I just don't know... It's really hard to tell. I may just be a case of "When car exceeds 20 degrees to racing line and is above 20mph 200 points per meter"

As for going into a corner with the back end first in a 4WD (as I like to do) it discounts the points and I find that frustrating... The really showoff methods in FM2 have become defunct in FM3 due to the "rules".

Heh, It's a shame there's not a fella on a segway driving up and down the far straight ey? ;p

And it would be really good if they included the jump, they've got the physics and the modelling to do it... just got to pray for some DLC content smile

Have you changed the Diff on your Scooby to mostly rear wheel power as per the norm in FM2? I think in FM3 that'll be a bad idea. More importand to fiddle with the Castor and Tire Pressures to get those front wheels loose I'd have thought.

Stick me down for this. I only just found a drift tune that works for me at the end of FM2. Plus I have found drifting a lot more controllable in 3. I nearly got the Drift lap achievement, getting 90,000 instead of the required 100,000.

Fujimi Kaido is just brilliant to drive on.
