Forza 3 + XBOX problem

I bought Forza 3 the other day and obviously couldn't wait to play it. First go, fantastic, it totally lived up to what I was hoping for.
Next morning, I thought I would have a quick go only to find that an error message comes up stating that the disc will not work and that I need to either clean it or restart the console. Do both and still the same message appears. I then restart it a number of times to find on the fourth time it works. Bit later on this happens all over again, so I decide to take the disc back and get it changed.
So, I've changed the disc, get home and find that the same happens even though my other games work. Considering that it has occurred with the game on both discs I've tried, I would assume that it must be the XBOX.
So I was wondering if anyone has any insight on this, or experiences of it happening to them? This would be greatly appreciated as I really don't want to take the game back as I've just got into it.

Well, initial thoughts are that your disc drive isn't reading the game properly. Which console do you have and how much hard disk space have you got free to use?
If you have an elite, or a bigger hard disk, I would suggest copying the disc to the hard disk so that it doesn't read from the DVD on start-up. If the game is saved to the hard disk, then this should solve the problem of the disc having to be read when you go to play the game.
It can't be anything to do with the extra content otherwise the message would state so. Are you definitely using Disc 1 to start the game with? It should then ask you to install Disc 2 to load the additional content, and then put Disc 1 back in to continue to play the game. If its a case of the console stating that the disc is unreadable or needs cleaning, then this will be a problem with the disc drive itself and probably not the game, as my old premium used to do that a lot. The only other alternative I can think of is to buy a lens cleaning kit and see whether you can clelan the lens to the problem doesn't persist. (I haven't ever done this so I'm not sure if/how well a lens cleaner would work.

The Xbox is three years old and came with the wireless controllers and the (I think) 20 gig hard drive. I can't remember, but would that then make it the premium version?
The hard drive has got about 12gb left on it. I've never tried copying a game across. Would this be enough room and how would I do this?
Yep I'm definitely using disc 1 to start the game with. Once loaded the first time I play the game, the loading time takes forever, needing me to restart it again, until at last it plays.

I'm not sure the current amount of space would be enough to write both discs to the hard disk, but I think its pretty close. So what is happening when you first put disc 1 in then? Does it ask you to install the additional content from disc 2 once you start this up? It should do, and once it has done that, it'll prompt you for disc 1 again and then should load the remainder of the game.

Other games seem ok, I tried guitar hero and that seemed to work fine which I find odd as, as you say you would have thought it would be a problem that would affect everything I try on it.
When I get home I'll try putting the game onto the drive if I create a bit of space and see how that works. I'll then look into a lens cleaning kit or maybe getting it fixed although Microsoft may be a bit pricey.

It's probably dust buildup, try a DVD lens cleaning kit, not a CD one.

I had this happen to mine a while back. It unfortunately just got worse to the point it wouldnt read the disc anymore. It was out of warranty and MS wanted around £80 to fix it so i took it apart. There are a couple of pots on laser that can be adjusted and this got it working again.
Unfortunately the RROD happened and i couldnt send it back because i had broken the seal! Way to go me!
