My PS3 Slim was delivered yesterday and, wow, it's great. The unit itself is much smaller than I expected and looks much better than it does in photos. The 'Bravia Link' feature works with the VIERA link function on my Panasonic TV so I can use the TV remote to control the PS3.
I was previously waching iPlayer on my Wii. This was a hassle to set up each time and the quality was dreadful. On the PS3 I can just pick up the TV remote, navigate to the iPlayer icon and I have access to all the shows in pretty much broadcast quality
I've had an HDTV for 9 months but this is the first time I've seen HD on it and it is very impressive. Even SD films look so much better, I am really happy. I have a large collection of films I've recorded from TV on my PVR and it seems to play these quite happily (MPEG2). Now all I have to do it get the NAS set up when it arrives and spend weeks copying all my films to it.
Apparently it can also play games (waiting for GT5)...

although i've ordered a 360 JUST for Forza 3 to pass the time until GT5 comes out, which will be awesome. You've made a good choice with the PS3 (don't let Xboxers say different 
(no fanboys please, ps3 VS Xbox, there both good) ) Do you have online?
Best thing about my PS3 is the ease with which you can get torrents of the net and, via VUZE, convert them to be copied to the PS3 in seconds....i watch so much yank TV (the day after it airs in the US) i question the need for sky at all!

First of all this will only work on the slim PS3. Secondly you need to enable the BRAVIA link feature in the PS3 settings (I don't remember the exact location). Thirdly, and rather oddly, the default setting for the VIERA link function on my TV was off. I spent a lot of time thinking it would not work until I realised I had to enable it on the TV too.
Once this was done you can use the direction buttons, the OK button and the exit button on the TV remote to control the PS3. This is handy but I ended up using the official PS3 remote in the end as the BRAVIA link functionality is a little too limited for things like watching movies / photo slideshows. It's fine for iPlayer though.
