PC Adventure Games

Hi All,

Over the past couple of years a tradition for us at Christmas is to open a bottle of Port and play a computer adventure game on the media centre PC connected to the lounge TV We have got by on the older amusing classics such as the Monkey Island series but we've played them so much we know them by heart.

Can anyone recommend any other classic PC adventure games for us to play this year? I know very little about the industry so there is a good chance I've missed quite a few classics that have been released over the years

Have you tried any of the broken sword series? I enjoyed those quite a lot.

I also remember playing grim fandango and discworld games but i cant remember if they were any good or not...

Have you tried the Discworld game? It was good, but you had to know a bit about the books too. Funny though.

Alternatively, the Indiana Jones games? They were similar too I seem to remember. In fact, pretty much anything by Lucasarts from around that time would probably be good!

Grim Fandango. It's a total classic.

Sigh. Why don't they produce such games anymore? I mourn the loss of LucasArts of old. When they were in their prime they were unstoppable.

Sam n Max Hit the Road. My first introduction to LucasArts adventure games as a kid, and it's even better now that I'm old enough to get the jokes!

Oh i also remember Leisure Suit Larry also (a mate at school had bought it!) but i dont think its entirely fit for family gaming!

Is there anything more modern out there people can recommend? I guess the Adventure games are just not as viable nowadays

Might be a bit of a long shot this one. A game called 'Silver'. You controlled the hero with mouse clicks but the mouse was also your sword hand (swipe left and right with the mouse and he would do the same with the sword). A fantastic game when it came out, very much recommended.

The Broken Sword games, or The Longest Journey and it's sequel Dreamfall are all faily modern.

When I saw the thread title, I did wonder if it was about the old school text adventure games.

I remember getting totally and utterly immersed in HitchHiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Infocom?)

Absolute genius - even though it was purely all text and no graphics.

Well I've ordered the following from Play.com ready for Christmas:

Broken Sword Trilogy
Broken Sword: The Angel of Death
The Longest Journey
Dreamfall: The Longest Journey
Syberia 1& 2 Collection (a punt)
Leisure Suit Larry Collection

Being this far behind modern gaming has it's advantages, including delivery that lot came to £45!

I'll grab Blade Runner from Ebay later on as well
