I watched The SUnday Show (on Sunday as per the norm
) and they mentioned this. The airport scene? Some people were bleating that it went too far? I'm not a fan of COD (I think it stinks compared to my fave first person shooters) so I won't be buying it, but I wondered if you gamers who do like it think it has gone too far?

It doesn't bother me though, as I can tell the difference between a 'game' and 'real life'. Like on favella, you can knife or shoot the chickens in their hutches. The wife says 'why did you have to do that?'. I said: 'It's not a real chicken...'. I wouldn't murder chickens like that, nor would I re-enact the airport scene. So doesn't bother me one bit.
There will be some people who are more affected than others, and if you're of that disposition then this probably isn't the game for you. But to want to ban something which is harmless to the majority for the sake of a minority seems wrong to me. (Also, the game gives you an option to skip that level if you really want to.)

Well said.
Just to reinforce that:
Just to reinforce that:
- It's a Warfare game - Guess what, it contains violence.
- It's 18 rated - By which age we are considered to know the difference between right and wrong, unless you're a pikey

- You have to willingly play it - noone gets forced to play, if you're squeemish don't play it.
- It's just a game, you're not doing it for real so it really is more of an educational experience, a step into the twisted mindsets of some of the most underhand criminal minds this world has to offer.
- I don't see SAW I/II/III/IV/V/VI etc etc etc getting taken off the shelves... Or the written version of Hannibal
Spoiler alert in GT's post!!!
king game ffs! To get to a point where a dev team is made to feel guilty for allowing you to hose down computer generared people is pathetic.
Look at films and books, look at tv dramas, they have death, murder and everything else in, but does anybody moan about this? TV dramas don't even have an age rating and are sometimes shown before 9.
I personally enjoyed hosing all the civilians down on 'that' level, and it made it all the more interesting knowing that people had complained about it. I even knifed a few crawlers and it felt good. You know why? Because it's a game and it is fun. Just because I did this it doesn't mean I now want to visit an airport and kill everyone. As has been mentioned above, the minority of psychotic individuals spoil things for everyone.
A also think that the debate and the complaints about this go much further. Due to this completely indept government we live in a society where kids and young adults do not think twice about sticking a knife in each other. Maybe people like that Vaz chap are admitting that they have completely failed children's education etc and we live in a very stupid society. Therefore they would try and re-enact things like this??
Oh well, in the meantime I'm going to email Infinity Ward and ask if they can update the airport scene to include old people with walking sticks etc. Would be even more fun!!

I didn't shoot any of the civillians, I was genuinely dumbstruck. I returned fire at the Police but reluctantly, and at the end you get shot by you so-called colleagues
Whereas I opened fire on all and sundry, and even managed to chase a few injured civilians down and stab them with the knife (quite hard, you move quite slowly in this round). I managed to nail a few coppers as well. I was quite put out that, despite my efforts, the Terrorist leader still shot me.
But does that mean I'm going to go collect myself an AK and mooch around Gatwick shooting at all and sundry? I think not.
It's a game. I mean, I can fly a Spitfire and strafe German Bombers, I can fly an ME-109/FW-190 on a game and strafe B-17s, blowing their wings off and sending them plummetting to earth. Hell, I can even fly spaceships and kill loads of aliens. It's a game, it is not reality.

I also kill the chickens, its something to do.. Their there to be killed, thats why their interactive chickens and not just scenery

When you compare it to other images of violence it pales in significance. I didn't think it was fitting to the game but it's far from shocking. My kids play COD and have both done the airport scene (they are 6 and 9 and have both completed the game).....its cartoon characters. Shooting a cartoon man is closer to Tom and Jerry than it is real death and destruction.
With kids there are two issues with them seeing violence....there's the fear they will regard it as common place and acceptable and there's the fear they will be scared by it. Within reason, the first is down to parenting. My eldest has played Gears of War, COD, seen Terminator, Predator, Bad boys, etc, etc (all with me present)...yet he has never been involved in a fight at school and has no aggressive tendencies beyond normal rough and tumble with his brothers or on the sports field. He would also not dare say "bloody" in my presence...yet has heard plenty of bad language in films (though probably worse at school)
As for true fear...That's where i draw the line. I am concerned with him having nightmares than i am worried he would swear in the house. As such, he doesn't get to watch horror or true gore. For example, he can see Bruce shoot Hans Gruber but its going to be some time before he gets to watch Private Ryan and Dog Soldiers wont be happening for a while.
Having said all that...clearly, if your kid is a little s
t then sticking him in front of violence will only compound the problem....so i agree with the ratings system as a concept. I just believe that, where your children are good decent little people with common sense in abundance....its better they hear the F word while watching Young Guns with you on a Saturday night while there mates are having to sit though High School Musical 12...than pick it up and school and believe the playground is as acceptable a place to use it as when you're being shot at by cowboys.
Interestingly...i have a 13 year old daughter the stuff they are able to read/see in "girls" magazines teffifies me. While little George Tiggsy knows double tapping people with a 9mm is not on his older sister reads that shagging your boyfriend is all part of growing up. When the rate of Junior School massacres is the same as teenage pregnancy...then we should worry about video games.

Although you missed the fact that it's apparently also neccessary to shag your friends boyfriends too, and probably your friends boyfriends girlfriends. I've leafed through those magazines in my younger years... I also once found a magazine all about swinging in my grandparents house :\ That s
t is what's REALLY scaryThought absoloutley nothing of it neither did my flatmates, I ran out of ammo shooting the people.
You have been able to shoot innocent people in games for years.. AKA goldeneye etc where you can kill all the scientists on facility if you want to..
People are wet, or just piping up because everybody else is ala Sachs/woss/brand saga.

I remember the Goldeneye scientists spree, used to love doing that!
The last computer game controversy was that one based in a church in Manc? Few years ago? Didn't play that game, but I love 1PS'ers (still hooked on GOW2, chainsaw is ace;). I didn't even know there was an issue till I watched the Sunday show. There was a Bishop who was a WOWer on there and a few others but no-one who really backed the game save for one man who was connected to the publishing house I think. I just wanted the opinions of a few real gamers who knew what they were on aboot.
Soon, no one will be able to cough without the possibility of offending someone. What amazes me is that a game like this comes with an 18 certification for this exact reason, in the same way others have pointed out that films like Saw/The Hills Have Eyes etc do, and yet I've spent the last few days playing online, and every single game I join has some 10 year old antagonising every other member of the lobby. Sods law dictates that the people who complain about it are probably the people that were pestered by their kids into buying it for them, knowing full well it has an 18 certification for a reason, to then witness the graphic content that their children are looking at.
I'd really have no objections to IW monitoring lobby chatter in order to single out the little f
kers who persistently p
s off everyone else and who rightfully shouldn't be playing it.
Oh, and to get back on topic, no where does it say that you should kill or injure the civilians in the airport mission. I played it through and emptied every magazine I had, and played it through again yesterday without firing a single shot. There is a reason for that mission as part of the storyline, but at no point did IW persuade the player to kill civilians. That is down to the players choice., and their ability to distinguish between fiction and reality.
