New Wii owner (although not allowed to play it till xmas - girlfriend is the boss!) looking for an FPS. Searched through here and a lot of recommendations for Resident Evil 4, however nowhere seems to stock it any more. The new RE4 (out in a couple of weeks) is 'on rails' according to reviews, which puts me off it.
Leaning towards COD4: Modern Warfare - anyone played it? Search function didn't help. Alternatively The Conduit, House of the Dead or any other recommendations?
Finally, is the Wii Zapper the best gun available, or should i look elsewhere?

Overwhelming public opinion (on this forum, at least) has persuaded me to order RE4 - got a used copy via Amazon for less than £15.I've also got the sword game (name escapes me right now)..

I have COD3 (not played since I got 5) and COD5 for the Wii. I also have COD 5 for the PS3. The PS3 has a Zombie mode which I love, and the graphics are just vastly superior to the Wii, though the gameplay on the Wii is, IMHO, far, far better (read, I am a much better player on the Wii, I cannot still get used to moving my thumb to shoot on the PS3).
Despite the issues with thumb shooting, I don't think the Wii has been on more than twice since I got the PS3...........

Also cheers! Not entirely sure how the numbering has worked - it appears to go 3, 5, 4 - however another vote of confidence! Oh, don't get me wrong, when I started out I was getting destroyed rather swiftly. It took a long time (I went through prestige twice) to get the hang of it. Eventually I was running around using only knife, betties and pistol, and still getting 25-30 kills a round. It is worth it !Oh, and on RE4, complete the game on the hardest setting, and buy a nice unlimited grenade launcher, then play again with it blowing up everyone in sight. Or get the tommy gun - that's good too, blazing away at all and sundry.. Once you get the hang of that, see if you can beat my score - 94% hit rate (I did re-do a level if I dropped below about 87%).

Cheers for the help guys - have ordered COD:MW and RE4, and am now looking forward to spending much of Christmas sitting on a sofa while swearing copiously at the TV.
Also gone for the Zapper - might be a little gimmicky, but I think it's my best chance of getting the girlfriend involved too...!

Links crossbow training is strangely addictive!
I wondered about the conduit - but havent bought it. My 12 year old has mastered the xbox and the PS version of medal of honor and he kicks my butt everytime, like you I prefer the "easier" wii.
I bought Ghost Squad to get me started - I suspect its not viewed as a top game but I found I could get decent scores and thus enjoyed it far more than some of the more complex games. Better with the venom than the zapper - mainly because thereisnt much nunchuk use.
