Xbox 360 life expectancy?

Someone at work is selling a 360 for a decent price, but it is 3 years old. Works brilliantly and always has done, did not have much use, but I am worried about it RRODing on me soon after I buy it... is there a pattern to everybody's breakdowns, or is it just random?

I'm hoping to join you lot on FM3 as soon as I get it

I think it is hit and miss really - My brother had his from release and it RROD last week. At least he got good use out of his. I am a PS3 person so I can't really help but that is just my experience

my first xbox RROD on my after 3 days of ownership from brand new, second one last about a year and now *touch wood* my current xbox is now almost on its second year of use

But as said its a bit hit and miss

Mine was reliable for 2 years - popped on Saturday just as I logged in for an evening of COD6(!) and is currently with MS with the dreaded RROD.

Personally I wouldn't risk it since the RROD warranty is 3 years!

all depends how cheap is cheap really!?

consider that if it goes pop your looking at a £80 repair from MS.

As above, unless he is selling it dirt cheap (ie. about 80 quid or less, depends on what hard drive), save your money and buy a brand new Elite with FM3 and MW2 for £200 with a brand new warranty.
Unless he is your best mate, dont assume everything he tells you about it is true.
Basically by buying secondhand you are taking a bigger risk than buying a new one.

1st make sure its not hacked and banned from live!

2nd - if its that old it will RROD, one day. Mine has, 34 months into ownership, now has occasional E74's too and takes a couple of goes to turn on.

Buy if very cheap.

It's a special edition PES06 (dunno what is special about it though), £130 with 2 controllers, wireless adapter, headset, memory card and 4 games... I have been trying to make my mind up for about a week now!

Special edition means naff all realy, probably only the faceplate.

At that price, buy new. There have been 3 different generations of xbox, each one quieter, cooler and more reliable than the last.

His is likely a 1st gen, and therefore likely to RROD at some point. You can get as 120gb Elite with Forza and another game for under £200

You've obviously read there are other deals about, but for info a wireless adapter is worth around £40 (but if you're using an ethernet cable you don't need it), headset comes with most packages anyway. Inclusion of a memory card suggests no hard drive - but you'll really want that.

Just go an buy new! And if it's an old one it won't have the HDMI port, which may or may not bother you.
